Chamberlain came off because he had a bad case of cramp.

And subbing Park and not Chamakh was basically a toss up between 2 mediocre strikers. At least with Chamakh you sort of have the option of lumping the ball long.

Pretty much what he did with Fabianski. He believes in resolving a player's mental problems by pretending they don't exist. Fair enough, because it forces the player to deal with them on the pitch, but in Chamakh's case it's not really the mental problems alone.

The irritating thing is that he'll probably get rid of Chamakh the moment he's proved his point and gotten the lanky Moroccan git to score a couple.

Two strangest decision all game. Dunno what he was smoking. He should have brought on only noe of Gerv and Arsh and kept AOC and Park while subbing Chamakh. He was absolutely useless. Says a lot that I was actually shocked when I saw him take that shot instead of turning around to pass it back.

Well presumably like Gurgen he's glad to see the back of that pointless competition so the most important thing is just to give players some playing time.

It did seem like something of a sabotage the way the game panned out and the substitutions that were made to counter (or in this case make worse) the problems we were facing. Like I said before, strange substitutions.

Actually I think it is. Considering his contribution when he first joined, I reckon he put up a huge mental wall with a signboard saying "I CAN'T GO ON LIKE THIS".

Chamakh definitely has a confidence and motivation or mental exhaustion problem, and he has also supposedly been disrupted by off-field stuff.

However when you think back to his original contribution - something like 5 goals in 10 appearances when he first showed up - we were all saying 'Chamakh is great, he gets them in whatever it takes and we need a player like that'. Winning scrappy penalties, bundling the ball over the line, etc.

In retrospect, it's perhaps more the case that he doesn't have the instincts and technique to convert chances naturally.

When he was playing well for Bordeaux, his vigour and attack at the ball were exceptional. This is a guy who was at one stage meeting headers at full speed with half of his body above his opponent's shoulder.
