According to Roberto Galbiati who works as an adviser for Fiorentina we made a bid for Stefan Jovetic on the final transfer day. Says Chelsea have shown interest too, but is adamant that we were the only ones who tabled a bid.

This is one cat I wouldn't mind at Arsenal. He's got frightening potential.

top player - with all these rumours of bids for stars i hope we bag us one

hazard was electric tonight

lets get two

Is this the Jovetic from a few years back who was amazing? He kinda fell off the map

Missed a season with injury, didn't he?

Ya just looked it up and he did miss the entire season through injury.

Yep. The injury is pretty much the only reason he hasn't been transferred for ridiculous money. He was well on his way to establish himself as one of the best attacking players in Europe.

agree with Klaus.. his missed season last year is the reason he's still at Fior. if he gets himself back into the same bracket of playing ability that he had before he was injured, Fior wont be able to keep a hold on him.. ugly as sin (looks like Jonathan Creek), but can play some good football

I think so too. Sanchez went for €30 million, right? In my opinion he wasn't as good last season as Jovetic was in 09/10. Jovetic played for an underwhelming Fiorentina side too that lost more games than any other team that wasn't relegated. His injury might prove to be a small blessing for us if we're seriously pursuing him. He'd be way out of our price range otherwise.

why weren't we seriously in for him from the beginning then? this guy sounds like he'll have a great season, but the big clubs are already sniffing him out. another arsenal management fail.

Jovetic would be a good buy. Would definitely improve us.

Anyone would improve us.

That's one way of looking at it. Another is that he's just come back from a whole year out of football and he might be in for a difficult season. Look at Vermaelen, his transfer value won't have gone up since 12 months ago. Fiorentina don't have CL football to showcase his talents either and by next summer he'll be 22. If he doesn't explode this season he may start to look like a what-if... player.

That's my guess too. We already have Ramsey who's trying to find his feet again. Can't say another player who's recovering is a priority at the moment. That's probably why we tried to sneak a bid so late.

Remember watching him tear apart England U21s for Serbia & Montenegro, looked very good, think he was only 17 at the time too. Not seen much of him since though.

Top quality footballer. Definitely worth going for if his injury worries are behind him.

It sounds like we were really busy this summer, tabling bids left, right and center. It also seems we made serious efforts to bring in good players: Goetze, Jovetic, M'Villa and potentially others.
We should sit back and get a clear understanding of why we failed. Were we bidding too low, were players disinterested in our ability to win or pay, or were we just unfocused? It will be vital to having a successful transfer window come January.

I think we failed simply because us buying any of these players was dependent upon Nasri and/ or Cesc leaving. Those transfers happened so late that there wasn't enough time for us to mount a serious, early bid for any of these players.
