Well he's not quite as good as Diaby, so that's understandable.
Champions League 11/12
Heh, yeah. Or something like that.
If Iniesta (or Xavi for that matter) was playing in the Premier League he'd be considered the best footballer in the country by a street imo.
Xavi, yes. Iniesta, no
When it comes to those individual awards such as world player of the year then the PL is often overlooked, and Barcelona in particular are often wanked over.
David Silva is having a better season than Iniesta, but he will get no such recognition in Europe in general playing in the PL. Personally I have those two at roughly the same level. Silva won´t ever be considered for WPOTY, and rightly so.
Sorry Rex, but Iniesta is much better than Silva. It's been proven in Spain both in their league and for the national side.
It helps big time playing for Barcelona. Put Iniesta at Man City and I doubt he would be any better than Silva has been.
Silva is a two-bob player compared to Iniesta.
Silva is not a shit player by any standards.
Way down Spain's pecking order though.
Barcelona have lodged a complaint about Milan's pitch. I think we made an official one as well but doubt it will be taken seriously.
Was the pitch as bad last night?
Not as bad, but it was hard to Barca to play their passing game. They kept going through the middle because the wide pitch was horrendous. But the central defence is Milan's strength so it played into Milan's hands.

Since it is Barcelona this time I guess it won´t be ignored then.
Don't know about anyone else, but I thought Cesc was fantastic last night.
Was better than Iniesta at least.
For me Iniesta is absolutely amazing. He should probably be doing better goals and assists wise but then he is as important as Xavi if not more in enabling Barcelona to play the game they do.
I know not many prefer their style of play but the way they are able to compress the game into one half of the pitch and still find space, time and control of the ball is largely down to both Xavi and Iniesta.
I don't think we have counter attacked as well as we could in our glory years under Wenger only because we don't have a player of the quality of Vieira in our side. He made those possible and never had numbers to show for it. Now i am not suggesting they are similar players but Iniesta enables Barcelona to play the way they do and the way they do it just in a footballing sense is pretty incredible even if it may look boring.
He's the complete central midfielder. Unique player.
Iniesta is very good. Not complete in my eyes as he isn't dominant physically
Or score and assist very much.

Saves them for the big games innit.
Like Walcott.
Yep.
Although, unlike Walcott, his general play is world class.
True that.

Wilshere had one Premier League goal and three assists last season.
He gets the pre assists

Rightly so he was never in the discussion for world player of the year either.

No, because his general play was not at the level that Iniesta was at who, by the way scored 12 and assisted 12 last season. Nevertheless Wilshere was voted in as the best midfielder in England and all that.
Being in contention for the POTY isn't how I rate players, granted there are players who are overrated by those awards but Iniesta isn't one of them.
Iniesta is a world class player no doubt. I´d say there are different tiers of "world class" though. Messi and Ronaldo in a tier of their own, then a 2nd tier with players like RVP, Zlatan, Xavi, Özil, Rooney, Cesc. For me, Iniesta is in the third tier of "world class" with players like Silva, Aguero, Benzema, Kaka.
12+12 in 61 games isn´t THAT impressive btw. Especially when you factor in that he plays for the best team on the planet and the reigning World Champions and Europa Champions...

I never said it was, but it is a respectable number. You need to look at that alongside his performances as well. He could have scored 3 goals and 3 assists, and I'd still rate him highly.
I think you mistake productivity with ability.
Despite him not scoring and assisting as much as he should, you don't think he is a large part why the team he plays for is the best team on the planet?
May be he would score and assist more in another team. He has the tools to do just about what he wants.
Humble Rex wrote:12+12 in 61 games isn´t THAT impressive btw.
He's a central midfielder. It's not his main job to score or create goals.
He plays a part, yes. In the 2009-2010 season when Iniesta was injured quite a lot Barcelona still managed to only lose 1 game in La Liga on their way to their gazillionth title. Not like Barcelona are dog shit without him is it?

You mean like Xavi, Özil and Fabregas who all piss all over Iniesta as far as end product goes?
They're not dogshit witout Messi or Xavi either, but all three of them are integral to the team.

Özil is an attacking midfielder. Fabregas is a forward nowadays (and used to be an attacking midfielder for us). So no, I don't mean like any of them. Xavi has averaged about five league goals per season across his career so far.

Wiki has him down for 29 apps in the league that year. And overall one more app than the previous season where he won six trophies.
Iniesta is often played as a left forward this season, and he has been the most attacking player in Barcelona´s midfield for years.

Only 20 starts though, but yeah.
