Nice YouTube clip of per

Must say, he's not quick quick but that lumbering tag is such a myth
You guys are too used to seeing headless whippets milling about, he's a central defender ffs! When and where to move is much more important than how fast. Tempo (knowing when to move fast and when to slow it down) is a major aspect thats being missing from our game for 5 years or so.
True, Biggus. 75 German caps and 1 yellow card in 30 Bundesliga games last season. That's all I need to know.
those stats say everything about his timing and positioning. cautiously optimistic he will do well here
1 yellow card in 3 seasons of Bundesliga football, to be precise.

all our new boys are making the right noises. I'm really hoping this team gels quickly and we start tonking some teams
According to The Mirror Jens played a big part in Per coming to the club.
At one point, Wenger turned to Lehmann and asked him about Mertesacker. “Good player, good defender,” was the verdict
😆 And so it came to pass that we signed him, those words from Jens were enough.
Not that it matters too much either way, with rumours doing the rounds about Vermaelen's injury we're in even more need of Per. He'll be under pressure to adjust quickly.

The Indy has a Mertesacker article http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/six-foot-six-eyes-of-blue-an-252ber-central-defenders-after-you-2348965.html
Hope Vermin gets well soon. We could potentially build a decent defense with Sagna - Vermin - Mertesacker - Santos and Sczesny shouting at them from behind.
Wenger has an opportunity to build a stable veteran team, and then go back in January to get some stars to garnish his creation
I'm nervous about Mertesacker and Santos. Think they could be brilliant and just what we need, or be total duds. The closer it gets to saturday the more worried I'm getting.
I'm worried too Tim, that the supporters in the stadium will forget that because of Wenger we've just endured the heaviest defeat in over a century, just because we limp past Swansea..
The supporters will never forget. And if they try, the United followers will be there to remind them. To earn any kind of trust, Wenger will need to go on an unbeaten streak til November. The guy you should be worried about is Arteta. If he cannot discover his 2008 form and Jack continues to sit, we're screwed. Our attack will be about as fluid as a LA rush-hour traffic.
That's sad Biggus. You're holding on to that result more than my United mates. It's gone, it's done, it was shit, but we move on. Just like the times we've been thumped before.
Hopefully we dish out a thumping of our own on Saturday.
It's the nights that are the worst Ricky.....

😆 Wenger: Hmm tell me more of this defending of which you speak.....
Tim don't worry about santos. He has too good a technique to fail. He will thrive here
he'll be find as long as we control the tempo. if we're under extended pressure at any stage i think he's prone to wobble.
😆
😆 Brilliant, I've been waiting to see a pic of those two together.
