I'm not sure. There are obvious benefits for a player as good as he is in playing regularly, gaining confidence and sharpness at what he does, getting some consistency, etc.
But in his case there's actually stuff to learn that I think he'll get here better than any other place. Plus, it does seem like he'll play more, and that this will happen gradually from now. Then there's the real possibility we will simply need him, as he'll be our best option (Arsha gone, Theo stagnates, or worse, etc.), particularly if he does continue to develop. And it is not even that clear he is missing on the confidence front.
So there's things to be said for both sides. I'd be really troubled if it were really true about him taking the criticism this way: it's a bad attitude, and it's simply wrong - he does have a lot to learn, and I'm sure he's being told what he really needs to hear. And for now, he's been getting more or less what he deserves.
