I'd rather effectiveness than running around like a headless chicken any day of the week. But anyway, this is a rather tedious conversation to be having; is Chamberlain a quality prospect? Yes and nothing else really matters.

You don't get to the level Chamberlain's at right now, at his young age, without a monumental amount of hard work.

That was the game after we had lost the opportunity to win the league, the pressure was completely off and Wenger decided to play Pennant at home against Southampton. Both he and Pires got hat-tricks.

Pennant certainly had ability but lacked the attitude to go with it.

The more I see of him, the more I agree. I can't believe there wasn't more buzz about him a year ago and that more clubs weren't fighting for his signature. He's so skillful. Did he not show it as much when he played for Southampton or something?

He was greedy in the U21 game, but they barely passed to him in the first half so I was just happy to see him on the ball.

Fabianski, Senderos, Denilson, Diaby, Vela, Bendtner etc. were never anywhere near as good as what the likes of Szczesny, Ramsey, Wilshere, Chamberlain are - not even close.

Try Nasri, Fabregas, Flamini, Clichy, Hleb, Adebayor instead Ricky. The point here is that we have never managed to hold on to our best players long enough for us to really benefit from it. Will we this time?

The more I see of him, the more I like him. He can keep the ball when pressed, unlike Gervinho or Walcott who often struggle with this. He still has that pace that we crave in our frontline and good technique. From what I have seen, he does need to improve his movement when out of possession.

Well I wouldn't group Gervinho in the same category as Walcott at ball retention. Gervinho seems to be very good at it and very good in an attacking sense too at beating his man. He looks awkward but he is effective.

I don't really know what Walcott offers us that AOC couldn't. Walcott can be useful but AOC has good pace AND technique. Walcott can never really beat players in a tight space (his goal against Chelsea was an anomaly). Our wide players need to be able to do that.

The five most talented young players that have emerged from our reserve team in the last two decades are arguably, in order:

Cesc Fabregas
Jack Wilshere
Robin van Persie
Aaron Ramsey
Ashley Cole

Three of them are still at the club along with others like Szczesny, Song and Chamberlain. Hopefully it'll be worth something. W'eve failed to keep some important players before but I'm with Ricky on this - the quality of our youth has been steadily improving over the years.

It means nothing in the grand scheme of things since there are competing clubs that can spend whatever they want on whoever they want, but people would do well to keep it in mind all the same.

All I said was that we have pretty much been saying that for 5 years. A big problem for the last couple of years has been that we have sold players that would have made us a better team.

What has our kids got to do with any of that? I agree that our kids are much better today than they have ever been. That they are here now is no guarantee that they will behave any differently from Nasri if they develop into really good players.

RVP shouldn´t be on that list of yours btw. He came here at 21 and had already played top division football in Holland. Also, at this point I´d say RVP is closer to proving my point about keeping our best players than anyone else currently in our squad.

kid's a talent, we just have to realise that it's going to be close to 2 yrs before he starts helping us win matches. he's still only 18. who knows who'll still be at the club then. best not to count our chickens and just hope this kid keeps making progress, and that wenger and our first team keep things tight so that van persie doesn't leave.

The only difference to me is that Gervinho actually involves himself with our build-up play and Walcott avoids it. They're both on similar levels in their general passing IMO.

FWIW, neither of them are aesthetically great to watch.

No, he was always this good but he wanted to come to Arsenal.
