Really don't see what's wrong with that quote. If people can't tell that Chamberlain lacks defensive discipline they've got no right to criticise anything related to Arsenal ever again. He's a wonderful talent but it's borderline stupidity to criticise the manager for not starting a seventeen year old kid more often. The real letdown for me is how poor Gervinho has been so far, not the limited number of opportunities that Chamberlain has had.

In the games against Shrewsbury and Olympiacos I thought Chamberlain was at least as effective, if not more so, than Arshavin has been at any stage this season.

For me there is no good reason to drop him from the bench.

As for Jenkinson not being played as a CB for the Spurs game - it would have been complete insanity to do so.

Not at centrehalf; Jenkinson was dropped from the matchday squad altogether until Kos and Djourou got injured, hence he was dropped as back up anything in favour of said players.

Arshavin is not a starter because he too is a liability but he has proven match winning quality from the bench at the highest level while Chamberlain is just a promising teenager.

At full strength, no. I'd be quite happy for Arshavin to never play for Arsenal again too.

Agree with Klaus and Capi on Chamberpuss. Very exciting young player with bags of talent - but looks absolutely clueless when defending. Ryo is much better in that respect IMO, and offensively there is very little between the two. Had Ryo not had his injury I feel confident he would have been ahead of Oxpot.

Well we probably won't get much of a chance to see whether or not his defensive shortcomings are outweighed by his attacking strengths as Wenger seems reluctant to play him.

I think they would.

Unless there's quotes I havn't seen he didn't say Oxlade wont be playing because of the defensive weaknesses he has. Just said he needs to work on the defensive side of his game, which is absolutely true.

I wasn't speaking about starting him.
I was speaking about not including him in the matchday squad as I've been puzzled for a couple of weeks by his non inclusion in the squad that played against Spurs.
It's not as if Wenger has a track record of sparing kids.

The Express and the Star say Capello could call Chamberlain up to the senior squad after he plays for the U21s against Iceland tomorrow.

Me neither. I'd forgotten that.
I'm not so puzzled about the Chamberlain exclusion any more, now that I suspect Wenger has adopted a policy (temporarily at least) of playing more senior players and experience to build confidence 🙂

Not sure. He's always been pretty bulky and sort of oddly shaped.

Pearce never coaches his teams to get the best out of the more technical players. They need to get McEachran and the Ox on the ball more.

chamberlain doesnt belong anywhere near the senior side at the moment. not good enough for us for anything besides the carling cup, too. it's just too early.

Don´t know if I agree with you on that policy of Wenger´s since I see Jenkinson in the side ahead of Koscielny or Djourou.

really, it's just djourou, and he's not a RB and was in maybe the worst form of his career. so that's understandable.
