Spuds winning was a bigger blow to us this weekend, our own result and Pool's aside.

They were always going to beat West Brom. Only 13 games played, we've got plenty of time to turn things around.

I'm trying to avoid thinking of them today but it's proving to be exceptionally difficult.

A blow to us in regards to them beating WBA even without VdV and more importantly Modric.

Ultimately, our draw wasn't too costly.

Next weekend Chelsea play Newcastle, so at least one of them will drop points.

United are away at Aston Villa and Liverpool are away at Fullham. City and Spurs have easy home games.

I think it was costly in the sense that it would have been what I consider one of our easier fixtures.
I'd have expected three points but ultimately was glad that we managed to haul back the goal and escape with one point.

Given the opposition the result for Newcastle was far less damaging to them as they could have been expected to lose.

Liverpool are gaining confidence now, that's definitely bad news for us.

Chelsea will regroup and Spurs are just a living nightmare.

Right now any of us could finish third or fourth.

our shit start has left us with alot of work to do. it's taken our best league form in almsot 2 years to even get into contention for 4th, and i'm a bit concerned we're going to hit the wall a bit in the coming weeks.

Exactly. The points we dropped early on means we can't afford to be dropping many home points against anyone outside the top 6.

for me, its a case of staying within 6-7 points of 4th spot until wilshere comes back. ramsey, arteta, and co. will likely be knackered by then. in short, we're on thin ice.

I honestly don't see a way into the top 4 the way things are going. I've watched the last few Spurs and Liverpool games. Both teams are much improved on last season. Pool might be vulnerable to a Suarez injury, but Spurs are quite robust and would survive several weeks without one of Bale, Modric, VdV, Ade, etc

In my opinion our rivals for fourth are just as likely to hit a blip of form as we are for the time being. We've kept ourselves just barely in striking distance of a Champions League spot and we need to stay there to see how the chips fall.

The trouble with Liverpool and Spurs is that as the season wears on they're going to have fewer fixtures they really care about than we do.

Theres a long way to go yet Cal, and King is certainly into extra time.

yeah Liverpool were good against city but still they are an average team that will be found out sooner rather than later. Dont think Liverpool will make it to the top 4 this season, our battle will be with Chelsea and more importantly Tottenham seeing current form, but i do believe they will hit a serious blip soon.

Liverpool were excellent against both City and Chelsea. They defended well as a team in both games. The weak links in the Pool squad, for me, are Carroll and Downing (55m pounds down the drain). Between them, they can't have more than 2 goals and/or assists this season, and just look midtable quality. Suarez, Rodriguez (who hardly plays), Adams and Kuyt have looked good.

Burns, you say our rivals will slip up at some point. I'd be okay with that if it was just Spurs or Chelsea; but we are counting on 3 of 4 teams to slip up in order for us to claim the prize. That doesn't seem like a game I'd like to bet on.

You do remember how that game panned out right? Koscielny walking off injured, Frimpong and Miquel playing, the drama of Nasri starting despite wanting out. They were god awful as well and I still felt we could have won the game. Looking back, that defeat and the Blackburn defeat would have been avoided if we weren't left high and dry by Wenger and the stupidity of Song and Gervinho.

I'm not the slightest bit bothered by Liverpool, they weren't anything special against Chelsea, given that Chelsea have been utterly hopeless for weeks now. I didn't watch them play against City, so I won't comment but Downing, Carroll, Henderson, Adams have all been average to poor so far. They're more of a one man team than we are and I genuinely would be gutted to finish below Liverpool.

I do agree that the odds of us finishing fourth aren't in our favour but Spurs are the biggest threat to finishing in the top four, followed by Chelsea and then Newcastle. On the plus side I think all teams will slip up, we just need to make sure we slip up less than they do.

Adams has been excellent so far. I didn't expect him to do so well with the step up but after Suarez he's probably Liverpools key man now. That Liverpool team is average as hell though, they've got very little going for them. If we can't finish above them the whole team should be lined up and shot.
