The summer was a near-catastrophic mixed bag. The season so far still has us in a bad position.
We obviously failed to pick up the one or two top tier creative forward players we needed. We signed several players at the last minute, some of whom are now working out well. Arteta has become first choice, Mertesacker alternate first choice, Jenkinson is thus far not bolstering our chances, regardless of his potential. The rest have been mostly irrelevant.
We've endured a witheringly awful start to the season and should not be excessively buoyed by a string of good results. However, Wenger does appear to be doing a very good job of patiently integrating a vastly changed squad into a unit that produces good football. This shouldn't surprise us because his squads, however composed, have never failed to compete at the highest level.
