Arshavin has this frustratingly despondent, lugubrious and downbeat press persona. In this case I think it might just be his essential Russian-ness mixed with his declining stature* within the squad.

We haven't seen it for a while, but really it's not much different from when he gave a spate of interviews complaining about life the universe and everything about eighteen months ago. I hope he shuts up and focuses on his fitness and his football.

My use of the word 'stature' in relation to Andrei is entirely metaphorical

Diaby is as talented as they come IMHO. Unless being able to stay fit is a talent. In that case he sucks.

What's the latest on Diaby anyway? Back in September was the initial prognosis after the operation, wasn't it? So it's like, what, 3-4 more months?

...or did they mean September of 2012? 😐

Would be a welcome addition to the squad at this point, IMO. Especially with Jack out, Aaron not in form and Rosicky.

i have time for diaby's talent, but no time for his brittleness.

I think this is make or break season for Diaby. He needs to step up now and show he can make a genuine contribution to the team. Last season I thought he'd improved alot on his decision making but inevitably he spent too much time out injured.

Half time and he's not far off having his game of the season, playing very well.

Great game from Shava, worked his arse off till the final whistle too, though that may not be great news for the Swansea match. He did look very fit though.

Just watched an extended highlight of the match, think Shava was playing middle and he was involved with almost every move. When you give him the main playmaking spot with so many off the ball runners he is bound to do well.

I watched the whole Ireland-Russia game. He did play pretty well, but the pace of the game was very slow.

Was Richard Dunne really as good as all that?

He played well. Mostly he made one amazing stop on the line in the first half, which in fairness, was the equivalent of a striker beating 3 players and banging one in from 30 yards. It was that good.

But it was a bit of a backs to the wall effort and Dunne was at the heart of the rearguard.

I didn't watch the game but I heard Arshavin was helped by the fact that the Irish midfield looked as if they came to stand back and admire him as oppose to close him down and tackle - would that be a fair assessment?
I don't have too much difficulty believing that.

Dunne and Given were under serious pressure for the whole game, lots of last gasp blocks, clearances and saves it seems.

Just watched the goal from yesterday again, a few times, got a kick out of it, such a funny passage of play 🙂

Lunacy from Vorm but Shava was on it like a flash, the instinct is still there.
He had his back to the action when Vorm gave away the ball but he was super quick to respond and bury the chance.
I guess people might argue that he couldn't have missed but he took it with style.
