Unlike Rooney both Nasri and Adebayor only have(had) a year on their contract and could conceivably move to a more competitive club that will pay their wages. Rooney's nonsense was hot air or delusion from the offset.

Could well be. There are clubs that are financially equipped to pay him £100k without batting an eyelid and also are better equipped to winning trophies.

It's not really anything new though. After the Invincibles season Vieira wanted to leave and we all know what happened with Cole. There was Overmars and Anelka before that, all in a period where things were working. That being said, I'd be a hell of a lot more confident of keeping Nasri and Clichy if we were successful, and yet at the same time less fearful of the impact of losing them (even Clichy).

It should be a massive worry for Wenger that his vision of a group of young players coming up together and dominating seems to be reset every couple of years.

It's easily solved though. Sign 3/4 top class players, who are established and fairly experienced and there would be a buzz about the place again. A one off transfer window spend of £50-60 million would be no problem for the club. We're just too fucking tight to do it.

I agree, one summer of big spending and i think it could set the team up for the future. No messing about, no cheapo's, no settling. Bring in the right players and we would be set. The squad is young enough that we wouldn't need big investment for a number of years - provided we start winning things of course.

Thats what Barca has done isnt it. Once they started the Ronaldinho era of spending, they won things yearly and only needed to add 1 or 2 big signings every year while shipping out past it players.

Toulalan, Cahill, Hazard, Benzema? An influx of that type of quality would make the world of difference. That 4 in particular is probably unrealistic but a clever compromise and i don't see why we couldn't bring in 4 players of real quality.

We need at least two more players that are at the level of van Persie and Fabregas. I don't even care what position they play.

Having said that, I can see what ricky is trying to say, it's hard to find those players. I know they're just examples but I don't believe Toulalan, Cahill, Hazard or Benzema are at that level. They're in the bracket below, although obviously they'll improve us if they were to join.

Vermaelen Nasri and Wilshere could reach that level within a season possibly. You're right GM, we do need more guys at Cesc's level but there are big gaps in the squad which if filled properly would make a massive difference.

For that reason alone I'd keep Nasri but also I do rate him as a player and don't think we can afford to keep culling our best while we make do with the mediocre.

Wilshere will reach that level; trouble is wenger will see it as a reason to let cesc go, when we really oughta keep all our top players

Nasri needs to get paid whatever it takes to keep him here, within reason of course. Since he is one of our top players he should be earning similarly to them IMO. We need to keep ALL our top players AND add quality to the squad. Make It Happen!!!

As for what he is saying - I hope it is all part of negotiating. If he wants the club to accept his demands it would be stupid to come out and say that he will sign for sure, or rule out moves to certain clubs.

Although Nasri was disappointing since returning from his injury, I have to say that IMO he was never hiding on the pitch. He wasn´t direct enough or made enough runs without the ball - but he kept fighting and demanding the ball. I haven´t seen anything that makes me question his desire.

How do we keep breeding these self-entitled twats who hold the club to ransom. Ok, if you're Thierry Henry or Patrick Vieira, I can understand you want to paid commensurate with your contribution. But jumped up twats like Ade and Nasri thinking they can hold the club to ransom after a few purple months. Then again, it's probably just another symptom of the middling status Wenger has foisted on the club - our best players including our captain see us as a pit stop to somwhere better.

You may hate me saying this but I've got to a point where I don't even blame our players for this kind of behaviour. We consistently show a stunning lack of ambition and our best players (and Denilson) are going to want to leave - their career is short and they can't afford to waste it pissing around here when we're going nowhere fast.

I've felt it for a while but this kind of shit is further evidence for why we shouldn't be undervaluing short-term success. We can accrue as many players with potential as we like but as soon as they come good they're going to leave because they're not winning anything here and so we continue ad infinitum with our rebuilding process; a process that consists of a persistent downgrading of quality in our squad.
