'Played within himself' is harsh. Young players often don't know how to use all of their talent straight after breaking into the team. Learning when to shoot, when to dribble or when to pass is a part of the learning curve. There were many occasions when he tried to set up a teammate when he could have easily pulled the trigger, took the safer option when he could have taken a man on etc. When his status in the team grows and he gets faster, stronger and more confident in his own ability, maybe even gets himself an ego, he'll start scoring and assisting loads, I've no doubt.
If you look at some of his performances at the start of the season and compare them to what he did later in the season, you'll find the difference staggering. His performance against Wolves at the Emirates is a good example of what he's capable of.
