I think he's bound for Real for the record but you never know. Reckon it would please him to shut up a few English pundits. City or Chelsea are among the handful of clubs that would be able to afford him.

Sure. But we wouldn't sign anyone else for a long time. We're talking about >£30 million in transfer fee and the highest wages in the world. There are three or four clubs who can realistically afford it at the moment, and he's already playing for one of them.
The whole idea that we can afford Rooney is based on the assumption that he's going for a cut-price and would be willing to lower his wage demands.
