They have a truly exceptional team, one of the best I've ever seen, but that phrase drives me kaka. The amount of times I see people posting it when they win a match in style is ridiculous. It has nothing to do with their football.

Yeah, it's embarrasing when pundits and commentators churn it out too.

The term tiki-taka drives me mad too.

The Milan team of Gullit, Van Basten and Rijkaard beat Real Madrid 5-0 in a European Cup semi in the late eighties.

I dont really remember the Sacchi team, but I remember the Capello team that beat Barcelona 4-0 in '94. I'd take this Barcelona over them I think. That Milan team was still essentially a defensive, counter attacking team.

EVerytime I visit my boy in DC, we sit and watch old Milan videos. That 4 goal annihiliation of Barcelona in the final was one of the most potent attacking performances I have ever seen.

But make no mistake, this Barca team are better than anything since that Milan squad. There is no contest there. I still, however, want to punch Xavi in his daft-looking face.

Xavi looks like he should be carving up an elephants leg in a kebab shop.

They wouldn't hack it against Stoke. Andy Gray said so.

Ah, fair enough - before my time!

I dunno, my memory of them is pretty hazy now but I seem to recall them being an incredibly controlling team too. Maybe it wasn't so much through possession but Rossi was often a spectator - he set a record for consecutive clean sheets, didn't he?

Their demolition of the last Barca 'dream team' was probably the best final performance from a team I've ever seen.

Having rewatched the 10 minute clip of the 94 game - yes, Barca today would win. Football has come a long way in the last 17 years.

Truly cringeworthy.

Probably not. They just won the CL, which makes them more newsworthy than usual. Pretty easy to understand, I'd have thought.

We get it, by the way. You support Arsenal first, football second. Top red lad.

That's a United/Liverpool expression.

We are gooners, not reds.

Probably not. See, they just won the CL, which makes them more newsworthy than usual. The amount of column inches they fill jades people to the point where they're being deilberately and irrationally contrarian. To the point where people are dick-riding the likes of Mourinho and Real Madrid, for chrissakes.

Btw, we get it. You support Arsenal first, football second. Because you're a top red.

he's dumb, but they wouldn't dominate the english league quite like how they do la liga. they'd get a bruising, and if we've had 3 leg breaks in 6 years, you'd have to think barca would get some pretty serious injuries, too. set pieces would be a bigger problem for them, too. but yea, they'd definitely win the league.

The sentiment stands

and although it's not something that will be remembered by anyone but a few bitter arsenal fans like me. we wouldn't be having this conversation if bendtner wasn't so shit.

oh and we may be biased arsenal fans, but be realistic. the invincibles don't belong in this discussion because they didn't achieve anything outside of their league like the other great sides in the original post.

wayne bridge... i still remember the feeling of utter dread and disbelief as i saw that play developing 🙁

Right up there as one of the lowest Arsenal moments. Has he scored another goal in his entire career?

I originally posted this in Tony's Homage to Catalonia thread which had rather a different thrust, as I didn't want to disturb this Messi little wankfest- but the threads were merged.

Yeah sorry I didn't leave a note there - one Barca thread was quite enough.

But they're more than a club, Pepe. We should set up a whole forum for the fekkers.

Interesting little video, showing a bit of how Barca do what they do, and also what a clever coach Guardiola is. The Xavi-Iniesta-Messi triangle he has created in midfield is the foundation for everything good they do. They are very special players regardless, but he's showing what a good coach he is by getting that extra 5% out of them.
