How has he got to this stage of his career without the walking across the stumps being ironed out? Over 30% of his test dismissals are LBW.

Must be time to start thinking about the all time largest winning margins in Ashes tests. I grew up in the days a Lord's Ashes test meant something very different to this!

Cricinfo tells me the largest winning margin by runs was 675 for England at Brisbane in 1928. Next best is Australia by 562 runs in 1934 at the Oval. Third is Australia by 405 at Lord's in 1948. Good chance of beating the Lord's record then.

While I'm looking the largest by an innings was England by an innings and 579 in 1938! England made 903-7 dec in the first innings. 😆

Clarke's "fighting half century" has given us a good hope of averting a worse result than the 1948 one at least.

Really? We're talking of ten years ago when you guys were better than us at most sports bar footy. Surely you've always been relatively wealthy and comfortable.

Cricket, Rugby and Cycling that jumps up at me. You're still better at swimming. We're better at Athletics though I think.

At least where I'm from we're astoundingly more wealthy than we were a decade ago. Astoundingly.

Not sure about the rest of it but I think the institutions of sport have been in decline.

Certainly the AIS has been dogged with problems on all fronts, and the national swimming team has had major internal issues with culture and personality conflicts etc. Cricket Australia currently has an Australian XI full of arseholes to contend with … and so on.

No doubt it was that Aussie team. Absolutely no doubt.
You name it, they had it. Batting, bowling, experience, intelligence, etc.
They would even declare early as they knew they would bowl you out.
I really, really hated them but respected them in equal measure.
