Anyway, 2nd test starts tonight. Thoughts on the lineups? Presumably Australia will make a change or 2 to their top order. Khawaja may come in for Cowan. Think they've made a mistake sending Warner off to Zimbabwe personally. Our only possibly change looks like it could be Bresnan in for Finn although I think they'll give Finn another test before changing especially as Lords is his home ground and he has a very good test record there with 29 wickets in just 5 tests. I think I prefer Onions to Bresnan anyway.

Yeah, don't think Bresnan is good enough for Test cricket.

He's got a decent record but think Onions has the higher ceiling. He was wonderful in the 2009 Ashes and could have been great but got destroyed by injuries.

Anyway Australia have named their side and Khawaja comes in for Cowan as expected. Harris in for Starc which is something of a surprise. Think 3 is a bit high for Khawaja. Would have thought Hughes would go up there.

England bat, Bresnan in for Finn.

Good toss for England to win, a lot of runs could be scored here.

Hmmm I did think they'd give Finn this test considering his record at Lords and Bresnan only has 5 wickets in 3 tests there. Bresnan does bring a genuine batsman into the the tail end though. Looks like Hughes moves up to 4 and Clarke down to 5 which I think is a good move for Australia. Clarke's best success has come at 5 and Hughes is a top order player. I'd probably have had Hughes at 3 ahead of Khawaja.

Who's going to win then? I backed England after a tip even though i know almost nothing about cricket apart from what i've read about the first test here.

If Anderson gets help England should win this too.

I think Watson could do well coming down the order too, if he isn't exposed to the new ball at the start of the innings. Unfortunately his clash with Clarke means he won't relent with that desire of his.

So did I. He failed in the 2 home tests against NZ so they dumped him, apparently forgetting he made 2 hundreds in the last 2 tests before those (away in NZ). Don't understand it myself. Root has had a great start down the order so why the hell move him up to opening in the Ashes? Especially when it's Bairstow at 6 who I'm not sure deserves the chances Compton hasn't been given.

Fucking hell 28-3. This is reminding me of Lords 2005 rather than 2009. Looks glorious conditions for batting too.

I just don't understand this hot spot thing with the 3rd umpires. The other day Trott was given not out by the umpire due to an inside edge, and the 3rd umpire overrules the decision without hotspot being available. This time it shows a massive inside edge from Root and that's not enough to say not out. There had to have been enough doubt as to whether it hit the bat or pad first. Looked same time to me.

Oh well, desperately need another big one from Bell now. Time for Bairstow to show why he should be in the team too.

Haha, just like the first test, one team gets on top then the other comes back. Probably because both teams are good but quite flawed.
