2 reasons; she just won the most prestigious title in the women's professional game, and she's not the only overweight elite female tennis player.

You'd think maintaining a high standard of professionalism and fitness would be a basic requirement.

Yeah but there are more women who are of athletic build.

Why haven't they won?

Lisicki looks great but the fact is she got stage fright and broke down. She lost fair and square.

Lisicki looks more like a star (but was also a bit of an underdog). She's actually quite attractive.

I know it's sad that her looks should play a part but in women's sport and in the world of work for women in general looks are more important.

Agree with Tim. Those fatty women tennis players are a pet peeve of mine. Kvitova who won Wimbledon 2 or 3 years ago is another one. Theres a load of them. I saw Bartoli eat a twix during a game earlier this year ffs. Really annoys me that they get paid the same as men.

I'm a traitor to my sex - I agree with Tim and Armour 🙂. Annoyed the hell out of me that Bartoli was so out of condition.
My heroine growing up was Steffi Graf - she was always super fit and destroyed her oponents.
Got no time for the podges, nervous wrecks and self promoting brand names who populate the game at the moment - apart from Serena who is a class apart, she's a difficult character to warm to but she is a great.

I just hate out of shape sportspeople in general tbh.

Don't particularly like Serena but she's great. Have respect for Sharapova too who is a great competitor considering she could easily concentrate on off-court stuff.

Really want Djokovic to win tomorrow. Its perfectly understandable but the media wankfest makes it hard for me to want him to win. I'm a Djokovic fan anyway but even if he was playing someone i didn't like i'd still want Murray to lose.

Actually I was happy to see Bartoli win it...She is not slim, blond and tall, not the most athletic out there, but has the heart of a lion and is a very, very smart player who has toiled long and hard over the years with ups and downs on and off the court...Playing with confidence, she mixed it up and showed an all court game which you don't see much these days....So kudos for a fine win against a player who has all that the media love, the looks, etc....

Lisicki will have learned a great deal from this loss, and I hope she wins it in the future...She had a great tournament, and maybe at the US Open she can show her great serve and power game...

It was a pleasure to watch these two players, not in the top 10, see their dedication to the game pay off...Watching Serena, Maria, etc., in all the major finals just gets a bit boring after a while..

I don't get this out of shape criticism....Sure she has an odd body shape, but hell, she just won Wimbledon...

Thought it was good to have new people in the final too and in fairness Bartoli performed really well and actually won the tournament without dropping a set which was impressive. Lisicki was a mess though.

Bartoli is definitely chubby.

She has a very, very nice physique but her face isn't anything to write home about IMO.

As for Bartoli, yes she looks unfit but quite clearly isn't. What's the big deal?
