Sam Warburton officially out of the third Lions test. Got to bring Tipuric in. O'Brien, Heaslip and Lydiate is not gonna be good enough at the breakdown.

Warburton ruled out which is another big blow. Surely O'Driscoll will be captain.

Think BoD will be captain, but would prefer A-W Jones.

Got to bring in Roberts too, and Phillips coming back. Sounds like Corbisiero should be fit too, so that's a massive boost.

Don't know who'll replace Warburton - Tipuric's been the form openside this year, but he's been nowhere near the test side so far as far as I can tell.

Wow. O'Driscoll completely left out of the 23 and Alun Wyn Jones is captain. Roberts in at 12 and Davies moves to 13, Tuilagi on the bench. Dropping O'Driscoll is what I'd have done if Warburton was still there but it's a pretty big call without Warburton as he was the next natural captain. Have to feel sorry for him as it could have been an incredible way to end his career with the biggest highlights of it.

Would have liked to start Tuilagi but Roberts-Davies is a tried and tested and successful partnership so I'm happy with that, with Tuilagi to come on in the 2nd half. Corbisiero is thankfully back and Faletau finally starts, probably 2 tests too late. Looks like Tuilagi covers the wing too.

Amazed he's dropped O'Driscoll altogether. I'm a big Davies fan, and his form's been excellent this term, but to leave out BOD is a massive call, and if the Lions don't win on Saturday, Gatland is going to get slaughtered.

Otherwise, I like the selection - Tipuric deserves a place on the bench, and my captain would have been AWJ regardless. Feel bad for Cuthbert being left out as well, he's a much better finisher than Bowe, but I can understand what we're trying to do. Good to see Phillips too - he'll be behind a scrum that's moving forwards, and no point us trying to out-Genia Genia.

If he was going to be dropped I'd have put Tuilagi in at 13, but I can understand that Gatland wants the welsh partnership.

That team is ridiculously welsh btw, looking odds on for welshman scoring the only points on tour.

There is a hint of desperation to this selection, although on paper its still an excellent team. The management dont seem to have found the combinations and partenrships to best suit the way they want to play. Every test selection has been a bit of a crapshoot. Dont think Gatland has impressed tbh.

Think a lot of it is to do with the fact that we haven't played any really stiff opposition until the tests. Without that, it's hard to guage who's really on-form, and might explain some of the chopping & changing we've seen between all 3 tests.

Probably. But still, i dont think form fully explains some of the selections. Croft-Heaslip-Warburton is a back row designed to play a vastly different game to Lydiate-Faletau-O'brien, for example.
