I love cricket because I was brought up with the game and played it loads as a kid, but I can understand that it's not for everyone.
Cricket is probably one of the finest examples of a sport that's also a vital plank of culture, and it's pretty hard to enjoy the one aspect without an appreciation of the other.
For example, I'm looking forward to popping a few beers with my dad watching the Boxing Day test on my beach holiday in the middle of nowhere this summer, then we'll go down to the beach and play a bit of cricket as a family.

I'll give you a sport that has really grown on me and that's Rugby League, especially (pretty much exclusively tbh) the NRL. It's a brilliantly athletic, skillful and surprisingly tactical sport, non-stop for 80 minutes. And the way the salary cap works means that a team can go from one of the worst in the competition to winning the grand final within a year or two. State of Origin is superb too.
Have you taken much interest in Australian Rules, Tim? It definitely qualifies as a brilliantly athletic, skilful, tactical, non-stop sport. I think it'd be very popular if it wasn't so ghettoised by history.
Probably requires more variation of skills with different parts of the body than the vast majority of sports. The last few finals series of the AFL have been superb entertainment.
