Anyway.. Wimbledon soon.

Thiem has won his fourth title of the season, this time on grass in Stuttgart, beating Federer along the way. He made it to the semis of Roland Garros too, he's an elite talent and will have a big say in this year's Wimbledon.

Djokovic is a genius so I'm naturally going to go with him, but Thiem is one to watch too.

LeBron hasn't shot the ball this well all season. Not much you can do when both Kyrie and James hit you for 41, and James had 16 rebounds and 7 assists to boot. Absolute monster of a performance from him. Definitely still think the Warriors will win it; just can't see them losing three in a row.

History has shown us that it generally is. Only the two sets of Detroit Pistons title-winning teams have fundamentally had team approaches in the last 30 years.

id throw last years warriors and the previous years spurs teams in as well. both relied on deep squads, with no clear cut superstar dominating the series.

youre right that the finals in general have historically been dominated by 1 or 2 star players

Tim Duncan is only the greatest powerforward of my lifetime. And he's had very good No. 2's along the way such as The Admiral or Tony Parker
And say what you will about team, Curry is something special. Look at how he has redefined shooting stats.

What's sick is that Thompson is almost as ridiculous in his shooting as Curry. I'd still say that The Warriors and the Spurs are very team oriented organisations, at least compared to the other top NBA teams down the years.

I would agree with the 'team' approach that you mention. It goes beyond the team itself, and very much into the back office, particularly on sports analytics at GSW.

certainly thats true in the early 2000s, but not the the 13/14 season im referring to. duncan and parker - while important - werent dominant. the contributions of guys like kawhi leonard, diaw, green, and patty mills made their 13/14 title much more of a team success than the earlier years when duncan would average 25-30 ppg

and last seasons warriors didnt have 1 superstar taking the limelight. curry came to life from game 4 onwards, but iggy ended up getting finals mvp. again, id chalk last seasons warriors title up to having a deep roster and solid gameplan, rather than 1-2 superstars dominating the series

If the Warriors end up winning again, which I think they will, it is far from a foregone conclusion who the finals' MVP would be. After 5 games I still couldn't comfortably pick one.

Oh, there have also been a couple of posts now about the great Spurs teams of the last decade, and not a single mention of Manu Ginobili? Just felt his name needed to be mentioned in that context. 🙂

manu had a good 13/14 playoffs for sure. 12/13 was a nightmare for him, he bounced back well from that

doesn't really matter who gets the finals MVP.
Curry was the league's first unanimous MVP. if that isn't superstar, i don't know what is.

Of course he is a superstar. May sound a bit strange, but I'd say he is a superstar within a very team oriented set up. For me, LeBron is more of a 'traditional' superstar in that he can totally dominate a game for long stretches. Curry more does his damage in short bursts. I rarely feel he dominates a game like a James, Durant, Harden for instance. I find myself often enough late in the third/early fourth seeing Curry has 30 thinking 'how did that happen'?

agree with that rex. and id extend the point further by saying curry can afford to play badly and golden state still have a good chance of winning. theyre not as superstar driven as people think, theyre team oriented with multiple cogs capable of stepping up to a very high level as needed. ofcourse if curry plays a blinder he can destroy a team but gsw don't 'pivot' on him as much as most teams do on their star payrs
