With the Ray Rice trial/witch hunt I've been reminded how objectivity in reporting lives on such shallow terms. Its great and commonly used when it fits a party's argument, but is clearly side passed when its in conflict with emotions. This isn't always an issue, but it certainly can be and never more so then now as mob mentality is escalating with social media, news outlets becoming increasingly dramatic, and all the other oddities of this world.
Ray Rice admitted to what he did and this was confirmed by his wife - that is objective reporting. The release of the video brings about the subjective side in that people let emotions (rightfully) alter their view on the event. I bring this up because too often we see individuals demand for the facts but its clear that objective facts only convince to a certain degree.
I'm not going to get into what the right punishment for Rice, the Ravens or the NFL (including Goodell) is. My concern, and I guess point, is that we're entering a slippery slope as morality becomes more and more involved with business and sporting decisions as enforced by public opinion. Antonio Cromartie has 12 kids with 8 wife's - on a slow news day that could be enough to get a vast, vocal crowd committed to kicking him out of the league.
