Look at Newcastle, they've lost loads but lads are stepping up and they're performing well. Hopefully we are sharp again tonight cos Villa away is always tricky.

Not ideal results for us over the weekend, but lets get real. If we beat who's in front of us, it doesnt matter what the other results are.

City beat a pretty bad Palace side.. Liverpool needed a last second penalty to draw at home. Spurs got hammered. Chelsea shipped 3 goals at home, and United beat a newly promoted team (after losing their first match against a newly promoted team).

Hardly surprising results. If we win this afternoon, we're back at the top.

What’s great is all of them show some pretty significant weaknesses.

This is the first look at is against a more traditional prem opponent so it'll be interesting to see how we do.. Villa have lost quite a few players but it's always been a difficult place to go.. As great as the Coventry game was they are looking like the team that might be relegation certainties so this is the first chance to get a bit more of a look at the team and even how the attack is looking.

Mirth well this is true too. I just don't like them all getting to win before we play.

And they all do have major flaws. I think it'll be us and City again in the end. Chelsea look ready to concede at any moment and United rode a string of extremely lucky moments to turn that Ipswich match around.

watching other teams, (chelsea mainly) i understand how mourinho felt when he watched the arsenal-spurs 5-4 game and determined we weren't going to challenge them.

I'll still be nervous until we play Chelsea next week and show how we look against a bigger club but I do think that we are just so much more complete than any of our rivals. I've paid the most attention to Chelsea just because I think they are the biggest unknown and probably have the highest ceiling of the rival teams other than City. They are clearly missing Caicedo, which makes a difference, but their midfield is almost nonexistent. Both matches they've played have had enormous gaps between defense and attack and turn into basketball games. I like Alonso as a manager and think he's already done a lot to improve the culture of that club but playing this 3-4-3 seems a bit naive, even if they have some of the players to make it tick. The big weakness that they have right now is defending on their left side - almost all of the goals they've conceded have come from there and there's definitely been a big gap between Rogers-Hato-Colwill that we can exploit if Rogers does not track back. Hato also looks like he's been studying the VVD style of defending too much in containing a player until they're in a threatening position without making an attempt at a challenge.

samthegooner Chelsea have given up so much possession and you'd have to hope if they do that against us we can punish them for it. They'll be a threat on the counter but again if we can't handle that then something is going wrong because everyone will be trying to catch us on the counter.
