As an American, it's absolutely sickening and embarrassing how this country is running (ruining) the World Cup. Unfortunately, no one is surprised. This country is an absolute joke these days and everyday is a new revelation of how low those in power will truly go. Personally I hope it's an utter failure - just with no violence.

Feels like the US has been purposely telegraphing this event as the spiritual successor to 1936 Berlin Olympics for ages but people are only now noticing it.

They intimated strongly in the past they would be hostile towards the global south and use it as an opportunity to humiliate non-whites. and yet the kos-mertesacker partnership is ranked high in premier league clean sheets while playing in a defensively naive team with a manager who could give a fuck.

put saliba or gabriel in a wenger team and "never a moment away from a fuck up" would describe them almost perfectly because they fuck up now in a defensively-minded team.

Yup, Koscielny especially was a superb defender in a team who's defensive policy at times was YOLO.

But we have seen top defenders look ropey as fuck when playing in non secure sides. Canavaro went to R.Madrid and looked shaky as fuck, even here Rio + Terry both looked shaky when their clubs lost their defensive stability.

Kos was good but no way was he in Gabriel and Salibas league. He was all blood and thunder, quick and good in the tackle but not a particularly smart defender.

Qwiss Yes for that type of football we played, which was high risk, a lot of last man tackling he was great. Our current two are better in our current set up.

Qwiss I'm not sure that's entirely fair. Kos wasn't all about last ditch tackles, he also had a great ability to read when to step forward and intercept/pressure opposition attackers.

Claudius I think its all related. The more money pours into the game the more each and every margin is squeezed. The less room their is for freedom and expression. Now everyone who wants to make it is under pressure from childhood to succeed, to be the fittest, the most focussed, the blandest possible football robot they can be.
