Havertz is a flawed player, that’s why with every big goal there is big miss (Man City, PSG, last night). Usually the miss is more criminal than the brilliance of the goal.

CPM there's no shift coming. It's already here.

At the top level, most of the physical players are also quite technically accomplished. See, you know, Arsenal for example. And even when you have teams that may be considered superior on the technical front eg PSG, they ultimately need quite a bit of luck to break down a well drilled block. I don't think Arteta is going to look at what we achieved this year and revamp his approach at this stage. More of the same is the direction we are headed with the caliber of attacking players we have been linked with in Rogers and Barcola. Tzolis is the odd one out, and he's the one with the most questions about how his numbers might translate at the top level and in a league where physicality is the meta.

Never thought I’d see the day Germany lost on penalties. Always like to see them go out but do obviously feel sorry for Havertz having to go through it again so soon. Messi missed a penalty the other day too so it turns out they aren’t so easy under pressure after all.

Amazing result for Paraguay. But is there any reason they just settled for one goal and “ruined” the game by defending solidly instead of playing “exciting” gung-ho football and conceding 4 goals? 😉

Epic day of football. Despite the expanded format with teams who supposedly shouldn’t be in the knockouts etc, it turns out there are no easy games once you get to this stage.

the same is true about stutter step penalties vs. "just smashing it". It's just that every time someone does a stutter step and misses, the miss is attributed to that technique.

Sure fair enough, but he's just scored in the Champions League final (nearly impossible angle) and in this match (difficult header). So really he's on one of those good streaks if we're not being a bit harsh.

Stylistically Havertz is a player who is always, always going to cop criticism for being ungainly or ineffective because he runs round like a giraffe never mind a donkey, and with his mouth half-open and his eyes glazed as if a passing surgeon just souvenired his frontal lobes.

No doubt he'll spend the rest of summer having German shit rained down on him so I'd rather give him a break, that's all.

Burnwinter yeah. The inference that he's mentally weak because he misses chances is off. If anything, to come back from the mental state he was in at Chelsea and then prove the critics wrong whilst playing for us shows a type of resilience and mental strength you don't see with every player. In essence, he falls down but he gets back up again (sounds a bit like Gyokeres on the pitch 😉).

23 scored in 24 attempts according to transfermkt, that kind of record puts him in the top bracket penalty takers. Don’t know what his record is like in shootouts though.

Unfortunately he is like marmite, some people either will not accept he is a top player and will always look for excuses to knock him and some will rate him highly. His record speaks for itself, he isn’t top tier and I don’t think anyone is suggesting

Nice results, Germany are just a total average team at the moment so they were ripe for that kind of outcome. Don't know much about the Dutch team generally but Morocco are a good team and looks like they were the better side in the game although I didn't watch live so maybe that stats are misleading but they've been a good side for a while.
