Burnwinter coherence is an image produced by reinforcing certain properties and relations while suppressing others, usually through violence, resulting in what amounts to the affect of legibility. Just because someone thinks they can read something doesn't mean that it means anything. What we learn to be able to see, let alone read, is an inheritance from sovereign power that is always reinforcing and suppressing properties and relations to refine its own image of a nation/state/etc.. The logical response may be one of concerted decoherence, either by flooding the field of vision or by picking the coherent image apart - even if that image is of one's own body. This is almost always perceived as irrational, inexplicable, and in extreme cases, dangerous to the sovereign of any given moment. Such a heretic pretty much always gets annihilated, but in revealing the occluded surfaces of the sovereign in their own decoherence, the damage may already be done. We could use a few more heretics.
The most obvious way to produce coherence is to define an externality and wage war against it. But it is very much the case that such violence is more and more turned inward onto the sovereign body itself. In fact, when there are no worlds left to conquer, there is no other choice. Self-mutilation becomes only way to produce a coherent image.
