Well, QS, he meets my criteria. The players we buy this summer must be taller, stronger or faster than the guys we have now. Ie, I do not want a Mata or a Mexes. We need brutes and athletes. Samba's fine in my books.
N'Zonzi is another brute I'd take from Blackburn, come in as a back up to Song and someone who could come on and help us close out a game. People will whinge about his technique and passing but he's a big physical player who puts in a shift every game and breaks up play without getting himself in trouble. He wouldn't be too expensive and he still has more to come as a player. I think as a cheaper option to add to midfield he'd be great.
So with that said lets offer Blackburn Bendtner for Samba and N'Zonzi. Then we can sign Benzema and Young and we'll be set ๐
Again, Samba, Benzema and Young all meet my criteria. Haven't paid as much attention to N'Zonzi, so wont say yay or nay to that one.
Yes, people will complain about some of these players' lack of skill, but what has playing 11 ballerinas brought us?
How's that? If there's one thing Samba's not, it's fast and athletic.
The only reason Wenger might have been in for him, is that the man's completely clueless when it comes to defending.

All our other defenders are quick and Samba isn't as slow as he's made out to be. I don't see why we can't cope with a single slower defender, United manage fine with slower defenders. Not everyone has to be a peak Kolo Toure. Defence is about balance. Samba has alot of the attributes we're missing. I'd definitely take him for under ยฃ10m.

He's decent technically too; certainly above average for a defender.
I'd have taken him in january as an emergency solution but he'd be a bit redundant at this point. We have Vermaelen back now and Bartley will be around next season.
I said taller, faster, stronger. I think he could come in and do a job. I would still prefer Cahill or even Subotic to come in, but I would take Samba as a consolation prize. We also now need to start thinking seriously about left back. Neither Clichy nor Gibbs represents an immediate term answer.
Samba's clumsy as fuck.
Think arsenal fans are just getting sick of watching match-stick legs defenders, but Samba's much too far in the other direction. Even if we'd signed him in January, don't see what sort of difference he'd have made up to this point. We'd have conceded fewer set pieces, probably, bit that would be more than offset with conceding more goals from open play.
we should buy the best we can get be that subotic, chiellini, sakho, cahill, samba, i dunno, but i just dont want us to cheap out
If we sign a defender I want one over 25 anyway, and someone who leads their defence at the moment.
Just someone who can partner Vermaelen is necessary. Not bothered about their age.

To be perfectly honest I'd happy if we never brought a defensive player through the ranks and stuck to signing experienced players in central defence.
Squillaci's barely played since January, and when he has he' been mostly adequate.
Squillaci's been a fine signing when you consider that he's effectively 4th choice at the club. Am I the only one who hasn't got the images of Tweety out of my head? He still gives me nightmares. We've been better off this season depth-wise even without Vermaelen.
We arenยดt out of any race because of Squillaci, Denilson, Almunia or Rosicky. Our best players are the ones who should hang their heads in shame for some woeful performances and crappy attitude.

You're just saying that because you want Bartley back next season. ๐
I'm just saying, I'd rather he spent the money on a better player than on a 5th choice defender. We don't really need more squad depth in the defence.

I've been rumbled! ๐
Seriously though I'd rather Bartley went out to a Premier League team, and we brought in a capable and experienced defender who could provide direct and strong competition for that role beside Vermaelen. Another strong defender who can bring good organisational and leadership abilities because we are sorely lacking those when Vermaelen is out.
I would have rather spent the money Squiscielny money on one top quality defender and brought in Bartley. With Vermaelen's injury, we would have been forced to play Bartley in a few games (where Squillaci played), but we'd have been better off in the majority of games.
You would have started the season with a recovering Djourou and Bartley as our only back-ups?
That's insane.
Let's say the guy in question was Cahill.
Vermaelen, Cahill, Djourou, Bartley vs Vermaeln, Koscielny, Djourou, Squillaci
which would you rather have?
The second, by far.
