Sicario2 I'm not making anything out, we had finished 10th, 4th, 12th and 5th in the seasons before Wenger arrived. This club was nowhere near competing with the likes of Man Utd, he came around and our legendary rivalry with them was born, or am I just making that up as well? In terms of turn over we were more similar to the likes of Chelsea/Aston Villa and I think Man Utd, Newcastle, Liverpool and Spurs all generated more money than us. Football was changing fast and unless someone bought into this and transformed the club we would have probably ended up like Spurs or Villa right now. Man Utd were probably doubling our turnover, Wenger created a team and structure to compete with that.
You say you support Arsenal FC but you're probably the same guy who would be calling for Arteta to leave right now if we finished 2nd. That is fine, you are only loyal to the results but I am loyal to the people like Arteta who put his heart and soul into turning this club around.
awooga83 Late era Wenger was not solely responsible for that, he was part of that which is why he had to go but quite clearly the board and higher up were not willing to invest in the squad. What Wenger's fault was for going along with that, that might be down to money and him being well paid and thinking fuck it or it might be because this was his club and he didn't want to just leave. Wenger has never publicly criticised the board and while that may have made you feel better about things clearly was not the way he was going to behave, similarly he didn't publicly criticise players either and had a firm line in dealing with these matters internally.
