Only picking on this because it seems to be the prevailing view but honestly, having watched the replay a few times, I think Ode puts too much weight on the pass which is why Havertz has lunge at it. Not that I'm going to pretend Kai is a top finisher but I attribute more blame to the pass from Ode.

Don Pacifico I was critical of Odegaard's weight of pass yesterday (Sidenote: And the whole team. Really starting to notice we have too many players that are so poor in this regard..) but having also watched the moment a few times myself, I think it's harsh to blame him there. I actually think if he plays it any other way, or more specifically any softer, the City defender gets across and Havertz gets no shot off at all. He's hardly the most quick and efficient of players in those kind of situations.

A top striker scores that and Ode gets the assist.

If you watch the game and look at the players who are visible than sure,Ode looks lively but he slows us down, he lacks creativity and cannot score, he also loses the ball in very easy situationa. He is an obvious improvement over players like Merino ( who might be our best striker btw) and Havertz ( who is a terrible CM and below average 10) but with Eze we have a better shape, we are more balanced between left and right side, and Eze has more creative and accurate passes, granted he is not as often on the ball but I do not see it is as a big problem, although I admit it is a small problem.

Take the drawback points re: ode, but we looked so much more fluid and dynamic when progressing forward today. Him and eze look to be the only two players in the squad capable of creating something.

Again who are we comparing him to, because I think it is Havertz and I do not think anybody argues that Ode is a worse option, the real question is Ode better option than Eze and for me it is Eze. Also since Zubi has been shit for a few months maybe we should switch to double 8/6 midfield with Ode and Rice with Eze as a 10 and see what happens. IMO this kind of setup should be superior to what wasn't working in the last several games.

Let's see if we start to see anyone try to spin the narrative that this is a good city side we've gotten beaten by. This is the worst city have been under Pep inconsistent dropping silly points in a title race they kept giving us opportunities it's nothing like the machine city. If we cannot get it done when the league is like that there is no hope for Arteta. If you felt Slot got lucky what on earth do you think of our manager in a scenario where we fail against the same city they easily triumphed against.

We managed to put up more of a fight than I’d expected. Kind of like one of those Wenger “proud of the performance” days after going out of the CL. But the league is over now.

What a difference it would have made if that Eze shot had gone in. The only player we have who can make something like that out of nothing. Such a shame we haven’t had him and Odegaard on the pitch together most of the season. And perhaps if we had a striker instead of Havertz.

CL feels unlikely but it’s 3 knockout games so if you can manage to not concede, and can keep Odegaard and Eze fit and playing you never know.

Every season I look back at the 07/08 season and 02/03 season wishing it ended differently.

At no point do I wish we didn’t compete and we finished 8th instead.

We’ve both seen us finish 8th in the recent past. It’s actually the purgatory.

And that’s just the emotional side of things. Objectively you want the team to be as close to the top as possible because it improves your odds of success over time. If not for Arteta then for the next guy
