definitely not watching the citeh game. just like their loser performance against bournemouth made me not to want to watch anymore arsenal games this season, maybe a heroic performance by winners will get me excited again (winning excites me, not style of play). TBD.

Mirth Still, it's encouraging. If we lose we should have the dressing room looking at these stats like crazy. And if we win it will be devastating for City psychologically despite their tails being up. High, high stakes here. I'm terrified.

Meatwad bro watch the damn game. It’s not often we have true title contender games. I want a win but ironically a draw is not a bad result which puts the game technically less stressful than 99 percent of the games we’ve played in the league last 4 months when we only looked in the lens of a win.

Don't get the emotional hedge thing but I may be a bit superstitious as I never bet on us either. Bit silly but always feels like a bit of a jinx so I don't bet on my own team's games and prefer to do any betting on other games I'm not emotionally invested in.
I'm a bit weird like that though - I also won't ever pick a Man United or Spurs player in Fantasy PL as I don't want to want them to do well. Broke the rule one time and the player got sent off that round and it really annoyed me that I was annoyed about it 😆
Do pick Man City players though, I guess the hatred hasn't been as strong or maybe it would just be leaving too many points on the table that everyone else is getting.

I did get one big bet ($3k) in on City to win the league at 8.5 a few weeks ago, payout would buy me a nice new watch but also make me sad every time I l see it on my wrist. Odds now have been slashed considerably (down to 2.1) and I wish I put more money on it back then because putting more money in now is not worth it.

The way I see it is this > would I pay a few thousand dollars to see Arsenal win the league? Answer - 100%. If we win the league, the loss of a few thousand dollars will mean nothing but if we lose the league that x 8.5 is worth something tangible (for me, in this case - a new watch).

At those odds a few weeks ago, with the way we were already showing signs of struggle was too good to turn for me to turn down. It was a nice emotional hedge and I don't regret it. If anything, I wish I put more in.

invisibleman18 I don't have a car and tbh, don't plan on getting one anytime soon. Public transport, walking and Ubers do the job for me. So yeah, my obsession is watches - like supporting Arsenal, it's a sickness I live with.

HomeSteak it's AUD btw, so around A$25k if I win (hopefully I don't). Would get a JLC Reverso (Q398847J) I reckon, or maybe something new from Watches and Wonders this year but nothing has really caught my eye so far. Been wanting a Reverso for the longest time so if the money comes, that's what I'd get.

edit: for the record, this would be by far the biggest gambling win I've ever had, $3k is also the highest I've ever wagered on a single thing. I cap myself at $1k in the casino and usually to around $500/$1k on sports betting so this is an outlier for me. but I just didn't think I'd have been able to stomach another collapse this season and decided to go big with this one when I saw the odds after the Everton win.

RocktheCasbah It's a big task on Sunday, for sure, but it's also a massive opportunity for these players.

Funny thing is that for once, and despite the gargantuan opportunity, I don't feel like getting a result will be in any sense a question of how much we want it. Other Arsenal critics are pointing this out but it seems like our problem is wanting it too much, if anything. We need Zen and we need actual two-way football, not just more effort.

Gurgen as you can see from the charts, a single result has a massive bearing on any outcome. Especially head to head. Even our fuck up last week dropped us a dozen percentage points on most models

If we lose I could see city overhauling us quickly I just don't think we would have the mentality to get things done. I think we are likely to drop points in one or two matches of the remaining 6 anyway excluding the city one.

Alan Davies was talking about pressure on the Tuesday club recently and it’s something I had been thinking about to Arteta’s approach. Davies spoke about how Wenger was great at lifting players and letting them be natural in their game and free from burden when they stepped on the pitch. Maybe too much so in his latter years but that’s not the point.

I worry that Arteta’s ‘fire’ approach is weighing on the players and whether they might benefit from him downplaying our position. Laying the fact this is the first time in x number of years we’ve been in this position etc can’t be helpful in keeping the players loose and happy going into the games. You can see they are nervy, you can see the impact it’s having. I think I’d rather see Arteta taking the heat out of our situation than turning the burners up to motivate the team.

Tam yeah, I feel like our issues are more mental fatigue than physical fatigue, as evidenced by the fact that our first game of the season looked about as devoid of ideas as we do now (ie. I think we've played to a similar level all season).

The fire stuff seems like an attempt to turn the nervous energy into something positive. However the proof of the pudding is in the eating, just because you try something doesn't mean it'll work. I see it myself coaching kids and you can tell them one thing before a match but if you don't maintain that attitude throughout they notice. If you are on the sideline freaking out and that's not in line with your previous messaging the whole thing falls apart. Its going to be that but even more acute with adults, they are more perceptive. If Arteta is a ball of nerves it doesn't matter what he says, they'll take that on.
