Arteta tactics maybe risk averse but players know their own and each others level... regardless of tactics.. If Rice or Gyokeres pop up in the half space with 1 or 2 players around them, everyone knows the likelihood of them controlling the ball perfectly, turning and picking out a meaningful pass is slim, so they don't do it and he doesn't bother getting into those positions and it becomes a pattern.. its a big reason I think why we don't have much meaningful play through the middle.
