My concern here is...... We start second halves like a ball of, well, shit.. SP has had a little bit of joy, though not a ton.. We seem to lose concentration during halftime.

Scoring is hard when 3 of the 4 people responsible with creating and scoring are Trossard, Odegaard(I can't take seeing him hit the ball with the strength of a toddler, I just can't )and Madueke, players that are allergic to scoring or creating anything.
Zubimendi is again shit in a big game.

HomeSteak Rice has been great? Wtf! He's as responsible as anyone for the lack of creativity. Him and Ode are constantly turning backwards when they receive the ball. Makes me miss Eze.

Individual execution is not good enough today but tactically we've got a good grasp of the game. This is not an easy team or ground to play. PSG went home with a loss earlier this season. We just need to keep our form and be a bit sharper and quicker when we move the ball up the pitch.

0-0 meh half. Some players are playing like they're drunk. This team has problems creating any sort of offensive threat, but everyone sees that clearly. Saka is a big miss.

It's because our midfield is geared towards physical battle, they've been bad at passing quickly and creative plays for entire season.

Tactics

Flat going forward but it’s not a big deal. Sporting will need to be more adventurous in the 2nd half because they know a draw is simply not a good result for them. Dowman and Martinelli could do some damage in the 2nd half if they open up

A pretty typical first half did nothing for the most part, lots of players doing the safe wall ball pass nobody who seems to have sufficient quality for us again from an attacking perspective. As with many of our games it's hard to see a goal, maybe if we get the set piece out otherwise feels like they look more dangerous if the get at us.

We are such an awful attacking team though.

The Suarez card was honestly one of the best things that could have happened to us. They're gonna have to come to London without a striker now. Just don't do anything idiotic and there will be opportunities for us to win it in the second half. Maybe we can throw on Dowman at the hour mark and see if he opens things up.

I have faith that we'll score somehow. I don't see them scoring unless we gift them something (looking at you Zubi)

tazmania Tactically we've got the grasp of them better than PSG did when they went here. Worried about White and Zubimendi though, they both look like likely candidates to assist Sporting for a goal at their current rate.

On the one hand I want to give credit to Arteta for building a big and physical team, and instilling the discipline/framework to keep other teams from scoring.

But on the other hand, it's so clear that we get by on being big rather than brave.

We refuse to play on half the pitch (most noticeably the much loved Zone 14) because we don't have any interest in combination play. All that we're left with is slow paced build up designed to create a high volume of low quality scoring chances, and a hope that we'll win through volume, not inspiration.
