It was my sister's wedding earlier in the season when we played at Anfield and a group of us gathered in a room adjacent to the wedding hall to crowd over a dude who was streaming it on his phone. The grooms dad eventually turned up and we dispersed but I would just stream it.

Reminds me of booking my wife and I's Europe trip last year. Didn't even occur until we made the CL semi final that we were landing at Heathrow (if all on time) about 4 hours before the final kicked off and there was potentially going to be a mad panic to find somewhere to watch it after 30 hours of travel plus however long it took to get out of the airport and get to our accommodation.

Ultimately didn't bother trying to watch it as we didn't make it so ended up just having dinner at the hotel and going to bed.

We have a couple of upcoming trips for different events within NZ and turns out will be away on the day of the League Cup Final and the final league game of the season so am unintentionally off work for those.

invisibleman18 the terrible thing is, there's a part of me that hopes we don't get to the final now so that I don't have to face this situation. I'm both a people pleaser and someone who tries to avoid lying at all costs so inventing a reason to miss part of a wedding goes against my core values.

Don Pacifico I get it. Although not the same situation, when we arrived at our hotel 30 odd hours after leaving home having had no sleep I was relieved at not having to rush out to find somewhere to watch it.

Honestly I'd negotiate. Discreetly stream the match but make sure to stop and pay attention during the bride's walk, the ceremony and vows. Also during the bride and groom's speeches over dinner. Strictly do not get captured by any wedding photographer or videographer watching the footy.

Give the happy couple a properly thoughtful gift and words. Go a touch above and beyond with other gestures and courtesies to the in-laws. Pre-plan some deflective special gesture to your wife to validate her if she pops off at you. Don't even slightly disrupt any meaning-laden moments of the sacrament. You'll be right. 🤞

I mean, if we're actually in it I don't think you can skip it. Tell them you've waited 20 years for the moment .. .

Burnwinter you're not the only one. Not quite sure the exact reasoning but I think it's somewhere in between (a) the bride doesn't have much money so keeping costs down and (b) the bride was worried about inviting partners because her mum doesn't like her dad's new partner. 🤷‍♂️

I was actually totally fine not being invited, not one to be offended by stuff like that but agree it's a bit odd.
