Randomly came across this on my timeline, nice way to retire I suppose. Great player but absolutely hated him for how he cost us in 02/03. If I ever visit Zagreb I'll pop in and let him know!
Football players make so much money and retire so early in their lives, for the ones who don't stay involved in football I can imagine even with all that money life might get boring. I know someone who sold his business in his 40s and made a killing off it, started something else up in his 50s and I asked him why would he bother after making all that money. He said his life felt boring and pointless. Said he needed a sense of purpose in life and sitting around at home or flying off on holiday all the time mentally took it out of him, said he missed the routine of getting up and going to work, meeting new people and overcoming challenges in business etc. Everyone is different I suppose.
