Qwiss and it's why yesterday actually makes wolves, Bournemouth, forest etc so disappointing. Why couldn't we play with that impetus and attacking intensity. Instead of the comfortable pass around the back hopefully we get one of our set pieces so we don't ever have to take the risk is scoring a goal. We've shown we can approach different the manager clearly took a decision not to do that in those games against lower quality opposition. If it's the case he didn't want them to do that then why could he not get them to change that's surely just as damming for him.

If we do collapse those will be one of the biggest jokes in the premier League that Gerrard team talk will fall below the embarrassment of this.

awooga83 I'm quite annoyed that certain players walked around like they couldn't give 2 shits against Bournemouth but were able to go and battle yesterday. I thought it was fitness but its not, it's a serious mentality issue.

Claudius the point is it wasn’t the showing yesterday, it was the contrast between what we seen yesterday and what we put up against Bournemouth.

Claudius it just doesn't matter if you try hard and lose against City but fail to show up against Bournemouth. It means nothing. Anyone can lose a game to City. Margins are fine. Losing at home to Bournemouth while playing like absolute dogshit is not understandable, and the City match happens in that context as much as any other. Whatever about the City match - it only mattered so much because of total mental breakdowns in previous match weeks.

We have the depth. If we don't, it's a an even worse indictment of Arteta and the club. If we do, then it should need an act of god (or PGMOL) for us to lose so pathetically and sloppily. There's nothing laudable about playing OK and losing at City in that context.

Tam yeah. But most of that can be explained by personnel. Not effort. Folks like Gyokeres for his goals but you basically play a man down with him leading the line. Some folks are over Odegaard, but when you see him drop deep to help build up play, you see that he’s a different class. We had a personnel issue in the Carabao final and Bournemouth game. This isn’t about heart and desire. Just look at the play.

I think this would make what happened at Bournemouth much, much worse. If the depth we have is illusory, then the failure is more systemic and much deeper than just Arteta's coaching and the players' mentalities. It means we're in a bad position as a club to achieve any major trophies.

I don't personally believe it's true - I think the personnel that were out there are better than they've shown and could absolutely have beaten Bournemouth at home, or at least be much harder to beat themselves.

Yeah agree that doing well against city is normally fine except when you've thrown away a 9 point lead then the result matters we didn't get the result it's not good enough now. The objective now is not feel good we gave it a good shot it's the result or nothing we didn't get it we failed.

I genuinely dislike getting nostalgic, but the biggest gut punch of the Arteta years is that there hasn't been a moment of magic in any of the title run-ins and there's an expectation from many that there won't be because the performances are so predictable. The younger generation of fans need to see the kind of magic that the 80s kids like myself witnessed growing up such as Anfield 89, Anfield 91, Old Trafford 98 and Old Trafford 02. Apart from the Real Madrid tie, Arteta's struggled to make things happen as the season winds down and pressure intensifies.

Dom those were moments of magic only because we won the league. If we won the league back then, Reiss Nelson in the 115th minute is a moment of magic.
