Newcastle tried to make a big deal out of the fact he was linked with us but they got him to join them. Don't think he was involved in any of the content they came out with.

Personally, I think all dirty play is dirty play in my books. I'm not sure I see the point in assigning different degrees of dirtiness to define what tolerance level is acceptable at our club.

But I'm also not convinced we're that seriously interested.

This is how I feel. Unless he's assaulted someone off the pitch, killed a person, been caught on camera doing nazi salutes etc. then being a dirty fucker on the pitch is less important than whether he would be a valuable signing.

He's one of the better midfielders in the league and would be a much more useful signing than Norgaard was.

For an 80-100mil player, that doesn't seem like someone that should be left at their current club as a loan to continue developing. Why should Lille care how he develops if they are getting that kind of money for him?

Yeah, well if they want that much money for them, they can take that 80-100 mil and get someone else to take his place. I dont think most clubs would spend that much and not expect the player to be with their squad. 40-50 mil, maybe.. But not 80-100.

People here thinking only the likes of Madueke want to come and be a rotation player amongst the plethora of excuses to justify his signing while PSG are getting Diomande on top of Kvara, Doue, Barcola

That being said, who would you have brought in instead?

I know Semenyo has been referenced before but he went for £15m+ more than Madueke, in a season where we had to bring Hincapie on loan. Semenyo has also gone in to be first choice at City.

Diomande is a kid with less than 100 top flight appearances. He absolutely should be happy to join as backup. To date, he has done fuck all in his career, just like Madueke.

They're not signing an established star here.

Barcola is leaving. And whichever one of the remaining three isn't starting big games will leave in two years. Players want to win, but they also want to play. And mostly they want to get paid. It's always a balance.

I think Semenyo is going to wreck City's system. Essentially he's got ability in front of goal, but not the chops to be a full-time striker, so he gets punted wide. Loose control and selfish play with end product. Kinda what they needed in the short-term when Haaland stopped scoring but he's a poor longterm option.

Madueke is a shit longterm option too of course.

What we really needed was someone who dribbles and creates chances and makes the right decision in the final third, and we found that player internally in Trossard when Saka was out. I don't think our fanbase appreciates how important these two guys are to everything that is good at Arsenal and how difficult they are to replace. Hopefully we bring in Barcola this summer to easen the burden.

People forget Madueke was brought in to play on the left wing. He started last season ahead of Trossard and Martinelli there. Its pretty obvious Arteta and co thought there was more they could get from him on the left but it didn't materialise so he quickly moved to being the RW back up. Some transfers just don't work out, that's true for all teams.

Qwiss we know Arteta prizes positional flexibility in players and I think him being back-up to Saka was always a core consideration given we had no one else taking that role in the squad. I guess if he had been more successful at LW, he would have had more games...? Think his role now is very much being Saka's back-up though.
