I'm in the same boat. I find this hysterical season suffocating.
I did not care for most of the attacking players were we linked with, especially the lads from Everton, Villa and Lyon. That said, we know directness in attack and capacity on the left wing are an issue - so when you look at a list of gettable guys like Barcola and Semenyo especially in the past year, one does feel we could've pushed harder for a 2nd or 3rd tier player when the Vini opportunity collapsed.

truly bizarre to let martinelli go under these circumstances. you can't tell me we were under that much financial pressure to force him out so aggressively.

Our defensive and midfield recruits were both done fairly professionally you could say, though if we missed out on those two options would have been interesting who our backup options were.

Attacking recruitment like you say looks a shambles.

Not sure if it is even extra money, we have put all our eggs into very risky deals. Risky in that getting them over the line would be incredibly hard as the players weren't fully onboard.

JazzG Yeah maybe that strategy needs looking at going forward. As it clearly hasn't worked.

For me Rogers was the obvious Arteta modus operandi signing for the attack. I'm pretty sure Arteta wanted him and I get why they thought he was overpriced but in the end, we've ended up with the guy who wasn't meant to be the main attacking addition as the main attacking addition. So in hindsight we should have just paid up.

Also think not replacing Martinelli will prove to be a mistake. Who knows maybe something will pop up in January.

I am also hopeful Eze-Gyok-Madueke will be a better combo than Marti-Gyok-Madueke and excited to see what Dowman can offer us this season too.

We do seem to have a real weakness in recruiting attacking talent as a club. Can't know exactly why but it does feel attacking coaching isn't something Arteta is great at and perhaps that extends to the recruitment strategy it's been pretty consistently bad over his tenure when compared to other parts of the team.

It extends beyond him. How many top forwards have we signed since Arshavin.

Alexis, Aubameyang and ? over a 15 year time span involving three different managers.

It's a very difficult market to navigate, especially given where we are on the totem pole. We need to take more risks on players like Pepe if we aren't able to land a hand me down, but either way - the success rate across the league for top attackers is abysmal.

Panda yeah it cannot be a serious strategy to improve an area you've highlighted as needing raising the level to have Vino or Alvarez as part of the main effort when at the outset they must have been <5% chances. Obviously everyone wants Mbappe or Haaland but that can't be the main plans for the window in a realistic sense.

Panda Maybe we should have paid up but that also leads down a slippery slope, what if Chelsea had gone even higher? City, Chelsea and Spurs have acted like they have been handed stolen credit cards and just spending as much as they can before they get done!

Doesn't mean we should behave in that manner but clearly whatever our strategy was it has not worked out. Good LW players have moved in the last year and we have not been there, that is concerning.
