In what way have we become weaker? You mean because we're losing Martinelli? I mean, Trossard was replaced (and then some) by Tzolis, and we still have players who can play on the left (Eze, Nwaneri, Madueke) and we're actively still looking to sign someone (be it Alvarez, Barcola, Osimhen, etc, etc, etc).

We've added Bruno G, Konsa, the aforementioned Tzolis, and we have (at least for now) a more fit Rice and Saka and someone like Dowman who can come in and do a job when called upon. In no way are we weaker, in any way, shape, or form. Martinelli leaving is not the end of the world, even IF we didnt sign someone else (although we should).

JazzG daredevil Different situations though. RVP had one year left on his contract. We never should've let him get that far on his contract regardless and I'd argue for the money we got, we should've just kept him and made him play out that last year and leave for free. But he was just as big of, if not a bigger, cunt than Alvarez seems to be so I'm sure he would've made life hell.

USArsenal the only thing we’ve missed this summer is bringing in that marquee attacker. That is a miss and the club probably know that internally.

However, we’ve done a great job of refreshing the squad because we’ve lowered the average age slightly despite bringing in some experienced heads and de-risked both midfield and defence.

If the Martinelli deal goes through then we’ve effectively bought in Konsa, Bruno, Tzolis and converted Hincapie to a full time deal all for £100m net spend. In return Martinelli, Kiwor and Norgaard had to leave.

So yeah - it is frustrating that we didn’t sign another attacker but this window is reminiscent of a United transfer window under Fergie where he would just hoover up the best talent in the league and secure their position at the top.

USArsenal We have become defensively stronger + a critical weakness was our CM has been resolved with a high quality player.

In attack yes probably LW is weaker if Martinelli goes as Trossard has left. Tzolis has started well but too early to say how well he'll do. As Liverpool are finding out it is a tough market out there for wide players. Only high quality wide player available is Barcola and PSG are pricing him £40m-£50m over what I think his value is.

samthegooner I think you take a stand and let him walk out for free, should have publiclly said we will sell abroad or he can leave next year for free. I agree though, should not have let it get to this stage, the number of players that did this showed the sheet level of mismanagement at the club. The year before he hadn't had his first big season and we should have told him he can leave or he needs to sign.

Mirth Ferguson used to annoy me so fucking much. He'd wake up one morning at the beginning of June and be all: "Okay, who is the best player who's not currently at a top club in Premier League? Berbatov? Carrick? Buy them for me." He had people who got him every single item on his shopping list year after year. I don't think he ever gave a shit about a deadline day; he was dozing off at some Scottish lake while United went out and got him what he wanted with the cunning use of obscene amounts of money (and sometimes theft). Meanwhile Arsenal would hand Wenger a talent dowsing stick and a £500 gift card at Argos and tell him not to spend it all at once.

I have to admit it feels amazing to be in Fergie's position for a change.

Klaus The only think Ferguson cared about was winning, that mentality ran through the whole club. After every good season he'd bring in another top player because a lot of the time their true enemy was complacency and always kept players on their toes.
