Guehi has become a little overrated. He'll definitely improve City's defence though. I don't think it'll be enough to catchl us.

Yeah I think he's a tier below the best but still a very solid PL CB. Bit of a blow to Liverpool if City manage to get him. Liverpool may end up renewing Konate who is on par with Guehi for me.

Not going to break a sweat about City signing a player who wouldn't start for us. They've got three or four defenders with medium to long term injuries so of course they're pushing to bring in a body, it's City.

Burnwinter That is the thing, there will be always be other options for them and considering the calibre of our CBs it will be hard to convince any top CB to join.

Last summer they spent over £100m on a CB and wide player, both not really worked out as planned so they've dropped nearly another £100m.

Honestly not concerned at all. I still think we beat them head to head as long as we have close to our strongest lineup and that would be a 9 point gap they have to overcome in 17 matches (16 not including ours), with a harder schedule. Guehi is good but he's not as good as Gvardiol, a player who I think could've really been a difference maker in a late season run like KDB and Gundogan have done for them. All we have to do is handle our business and we will beat them. The fact they are making these desperation moves to catch us will make it all sweeter.

samthegooner I see what you're saying, but I don't think it matters in terms of this season if he's as good as Gvardiol. What matters is if he's better than who they'd have to play if they didn't sign him.

I think it'll be a tight race. If you're not worried then you either must not think Guehi will be able to give them 1-2 extra points or you think we'll win by a decent margin so those extra points are irrelevant anyway. And you might very well be right, of course.

a free isn't free. you end up paying them HUGE wages and that matters more. we've already been burned by these free transfers that get paid big money and then we can't move them on. if it's the lack of a fee that made you value him then he's definitely not the right answer.

Meatwad use of funds plays in to it.

I was very big on Guehi two summers ago after the Euros. He was brilliant then and suited the style of play we were pursuing back then. However now we place far more emphasis on physical strength. There are also emerging talents like Jacquet who would be better for us both in a play style and profile sense

Signing Guehi means they're not playing Alleyne and Khusanov for most of the season.
