QuincyAbeyie exactly all it means we will have 5 qualified places and an extra place for each of the CL/EL winners if they finish outside the top 4. The places for the top 4 will not be added to in the event someone in there wins it. Therefore the top 4 qualify for the CL regardless.

The 5th place available for the Uefa coefficient route is extra but does not necessarily mean it will have to go to the 5th highest ranked team like it does for the top 4 places which are fixed.

Basically unlike the top 4, which will have 4 places available regardless if someone in the top 4 wins the EL or CL, the extra place will go to the highest place team not qualified, which is usually 5th unless the team in 5th wins the CL/EL.

If either we/Liverpool win the CL and Villa win the EL and both finish in the top 4 then 5th will only qualify through the Uefa coefficient route.
If either Liverpool or Villa win the CL/EL and finish 5th the Uefa coefficient place will go to 6th.
If they both win the CL/EL and finish 5th AND 6th then it goes to the 7th place team.

Again the Uefa coefficient place is the only position flexible place hilst the CL places for finishing top 4 is fixed to the top 4.

Got to have a photo with the Premier League trophy today which was pretty cool. It was on an Australia and NZ tour (Theo Walcott was on part of the Australia bit). In NZ in Auckland for one day today and I happen to be up here for a few days for a show. Also got to meet some of the Auckland branch of the Arsenal NZ supporters club and will be watching the final with them in the morning.

But the more I watch football, the more I think Super League is inevitable. At some point the owners of these clubs will realise that there is only one Demebele, one Mbappe, and one Declan. People adore these players. You can probably generate as much money with a smaller league format that guarantees that the best players are typically healthy and available, ensuring marquee matchups; and fewer people share in the money. They’ll lock out the FA and UEFA and just take all that money that would’ve gone into our current 4 competitions for the Super League alone. I like tradition, but the traditional structures will eat themselves up through insatiable greed.

I don't think so, Claude. I think more fixtures >> fewer fixtures from a commercial standpoint because people (both in the stands and on streaming / television) will show up simply by dint of wanting to watch a team / most of the players in it, even if there is some chance they are injured or rested. I think the CL has effectively absorbed the Super League within it and the only question will be how those economics are split up between the participants. What I think we will see slowly is the participation criteria for the UCL / UEL evolving to ensure that a few well followed global clubs are permanent residents and a few slots stay open for new clubs based on performance. It's effectively how the PL also works in some ways with only 3 clubs moving up / down in each season.

QuincyAbeyie Interesting! I like to keep myself updated on the rules and I didn't know this. Maybe it's because most people don't take penalties like this buffoon so it never comes up. 🙂

Hasn't been the same since that massive contract bump but even last season he was extremely efficient but for long periods completely out of the game.

One of the best wide players in the PL though, superb player for them. Time to get that Saudi money I guess....

JazzG nah my bet he is going to real in the summer on a free. If they wanted to sell him to Saudi they would have done for a fee but reckon he wants to still play competitive football which is fair enough.

Saka needs to take a page out of this guys book. Salah started exploding around 24 years of age whereas Saka looks like he has 2 or 3 years left in him as an elite player max.

Yeah, but Salah's distinction at the top aside from his talent has been his incredible durability. Couldn't believe he didn't get wrecked last season. I love Saka but I wouldn't predict that to appear for him based on the evidence.
