It's one of those "he's a dickhead, but he's our dickhead" scenarios with Arteta. One thing I keep in mind is that our players very rarely have a bad word to say about him.

awooga83 agreed. Nwaneri in particular is in danger of having his trajectory Oxladed if he doesn't open his mind up to developing into a versatile attacking mid/forward.

It's still super early though obviously.

Big Willie Now, I wouldn't go so far as to say I hate him either, but I certainly don't love him. In fact I don't particularly even like him.

Why is that though?

The man was our club captain, lifted our first trophy for nine years with Thomas Vermaelen. Quit playing when he could no longer be 10/10 every week because that is the standard at Arsenal, or should be. And has, as Burns says, he has resuscitated this club to the point where some here are saying he should go if we don't win something this year. He's an intense guy, he's made unpopular decisions, but he's made us a force domestically and in Europe again. More than that, listen to how he talks about the club, he is a proper Arsenal man.

If he could win the Champions League this season, for me it's not, "yes, you can keep your job"; it's "where would you like your statue sir?"

RocktheCasbah for me it’s the handling of the Partey situation. Admittedly a tough situation to be in but he took the wrong turn at every opportunity.

Mirth yeah, you know what? If that is the reason, that's fair enough. I'm not gonna pretend I wasn't also incredibly disappointed by how he and the club played this out.

Mirth this. But for me started with the “I am the solution” comment, as right as it may have been. I think the comment “he’s our dickhead” is the most accurate. So I don’t hate him, and I even love him a bit, and more especially if we win. Guess it’s complicated and not fully rational.

His achievement in terms of getting us back in the mix, and it was his vision that convinced kroenke etc to invest too, so deep gratitude to him for that. I just sometimes feel he thinks he’s playing FIFA wanting to control every aspect of the game, which gives rise to the sterile footy at some point. If he can prove he can adapt a bit more and win us something, then he will definitely deserve being called one of the top managers

I agree with the above, when Arsenal fans comment they don't understand why the wider football world don't like Arteta I think we all know why. If he was managing another club or rival none of us would like him so his character isn't particularly endearing and now with the Partey actions I find that personally difficult to forgive so that combination means I'm not sure he'll ever attract the same sort of feeling as some of our previous managers.

As for his level when/if he wins a top trophy people will be forced to accept it but until then he'll always be categorised as a nearly man below the managers who have managed to do it.

The fact that he's playing for Palace suggests he's not going to Spurs just yet.

That being said, I don't think he's coming to Arsenal either.

Everyone just have to be a bit patient in deals like these. The window is open for two more weeks. I'm sure we've given Eze's camp reassurances but they're based on outgoings. We expect a couple of players to leave so there shouldn't be an issue aside from time.

Going to Spurs who are shit is naturally the easier choice if you just want a starting spot, but in this situation you also need the player to back himself to succeed at Arsenal. Make a big boy statement. If Eze thinks he's good enough then he'll hold out for us.

Qwiss Yeah me too. I'm sure Trossard is leaving though because this is his last opportunity to pick a good club. There's no way he'll even make the match-day squad unless there's a ton of injuries. He'll be 31 next summer with 300 minutes of football or so under his belt. Only ones that'll want him are the newly promoted teams.

Also it’s a World Cup year and likely Trossard’s last chance to be a key part of the international team. If he’s able to find a new club that offers him job security and playing time I think he’ll move.
