Watching Ekitike today and Sesko recently, both lack power, which is understandable given their age. Gyokeres is a manny man and that physical presence is a big positive in fixtures against the toughest opponents

Can’t get my head around how poor the VG cameo was yesterday. We usually give that kind of grace to younger players not big summer signings.

JazzG unfortunately there were signs prior to the move which left some questions. His technical quality is low and many of his chances were getting away from poorer defences so that looked to be one of the questions about how that translates to the premier league and it looks not very effectively

The most disappointing thing about the dropped points is the lack of impact players like Gyokeres, Madueke, Odegaard, Martinelli and co. have had from the bench. They should be turning the game for us but were completely non-existent.

Bring Back Kerrea Gilbert I would say last two halves. First half v Brentford I thought he was good. He has shown a clear lack of football IQ since esp with that late chance at the end yesterday. He can be our winger equivalent of Nunez and just cause havoc from the bench which I’m ok with but he does need to improve decision making - he’s not a kid.

Sicario2 yes, he was very refreshing in the first half against Burnley.

Something that seems clear with him is that he can dig out a decent ball with no time to think when he's on the by-line, but when he's at the top corner of the box, with time to think, his crosses (on his strong foot as well) are absolutely dog shit and rarely clear the first man.

Instinct player and he needs to become more than that

He dragged two players with him for Trossards goal. He was too busy pressuring their midfield on the cutback from Rice, that's on Arteta for demanding he throws his weight everywhere

Seeing him in person made me get a better feel for him. My word does he have a good burst. Not sure TV does it justice.

He’s not quite on the same wavelength as the players yet, and his play is definitely less sophisticated, but he has that umph factor.

Think it will click with him. Wouldn’t be surprised if we see him striking up a good partnership with Havertz

Trossard improved us a lot against that opposition. What a player. I do think Gyökeres being there had an effect and created a bit more space while we were behind. Gyök makes decent runs off the ball and we need that.

When we talked about the benefits of signing Gyökeres in the summer we always made reference to the space he'd create as well as the goals he'd score.

Still. The Animate Carbon Rod™ scenario is a problem. Let's not pretend a half with 11 touches, 2 in the box, 0 shots, 0 chances created, 0.03 xGA is adequate from our 9. It's not.

I still think it's partly to do with the team setup and the seeming unwillingness to get the ball to him. Even Saka's goal against Brentford could have been significantly easier had he slipped VG in who was in far more space than he was. Ultimately, had to depend on a deflection to take it over the keeper. I think we miss Odegaard's sharpness as well a little - he has had an on-off season, but if he stays fit in the second half of the season, he needs to start releasing VG far earlier.

Yeah what’s up with that. When havertz was struggling, we were out there patting him take penalties, giving him easy chances. Now, we’re all like figure it out bro.
