So I did, based on transfermarkt as a striker since jan 2024 we add up 17 starts with 7 goals and 6 assists more for Havertz.
So it takes Havertz to 36 games and 14 goals and 9 assists, better but still not great.

It's really not bad at all. None of these players have what I'd call good output for a striker except in bursts, which to me is 1 goal in 2 and forget the assists. But to me Havertz is the player who could reach that level at some stage.

that's why spending your money on top tier defenders is a better use of it. a bunch of wasteman out there and they cost so much. hopefully this new italian can do a better job identifying elite attacking talent than those that are currently doing it.

Meatwad well he supposedly was the one pushing us to go for Gyokeres so debatable that he has anything more than an eye for market opportunities and making a deal. Not sure talent-spotting is his thing.

Merino, Havertz and Jesus all move around the pitch, come short, go wide, drop deep, move all over the fucking pitch to get involved, get touches of the ball and generate shots and chances for themselves. Gyokeres stays stuck on the last line for pretty much the entire match, that is his playing style, but that's why I never got why people were so obsessed with a box striker - they offer so little.

Gyokeres needs to change how he plays but I suspect it's too late in his career for that.

daredevil disagree. Gyökeres's style makes it harder for opposition to triple up on our wingers. We actually have a shape in attack instead of just mush.

Yes, Gyokeres needs to work the channels more rather than drop deep or spend his entire game wrestling with CBs. According to everything Klaus said, that's how he played in Portugal so it's part of his game somewhere.

That was all he did initially. He wasn't getting the ball. He would make run after run after run. Only to watch us overlook them and give it to Saka/ Trossard/Martinelli.

And then he watches a Merino come on and not do close to half that channel running work and still be involved enough to average close to a goal a game upfront. It must be frustrating. Lol

I would put this down to him getting used to Arteta's system and micro-management. For all we know, Arteta is changing his mind with the new players and the system. I wouldn't be surprised if we started the season with Arteta instructing VG to make those runs and is now asking him to try some more variety. I am happy to give him the rest of the season to adapt (not that there is any other choice in any case) and during that adaptation period, he anyway occupies opposition defenders and allows more space to our wingers, which is good. I'd also be keen to see how he combines with our LW (which is currently a rotating carousel) - ideally if we can give Eze an extended run in that position, it will help them both combine well.

Ever since the Wolves game on reddit all the talk is about Goykeres. Is he shit or do we not use him the right way? There were even a shit load of posts from Sporting fans about the issue lol. Anyways, someone made this video, some bad one in there, also missing the Leeds slip. I hope he gets one vs Everton, he needs it

Good compilation. Shows that a. he offers something that we don't have with other forwards and that b. he needs to do better when he gets into those situations.

est you mean the fact he moves like a striker? You're right but that's only exceptional in a squad that has primarily used midfielders in that position for the last two seasons.

I've never been convinced that his shooting was anything to write home about. Has a lot of power but but not a great deal of precision based on the shot compilations I looked at before he signed.

That's at least an extra 5-10 goals from a top striker.

seems like we started the season playing to his "strengths" and then the players realized he wasn't up for it and started looking for other options.

He perhaps doesn’t have precision but what he does have is that ability to consistently strike the ball in a way it’s tough for keepers to handle. Slight disguise on swept low bullets or a powerful shot which often finishes near the roof of the net.

Gyokeres is getting a lot of heat, but there’s definitely a good player there. He needs a goal to build his and his teammates confidence in him.

Pretty good appraisal of where things are at the moment and adds some context.. Sometimes you get the narrative that only arsenal have to deal with low blocks but you can get a more rounded perspective with some of the data.

Ultimately he hasn't been able to make the step up to the premier League which was always a work that the quality in Portugal was really poor and he struggled against the better sides there. The talk of needing time maybe a season to adapt I don't think is good because part of the reason I thought we went for him despite his limitations was he was ready to go and make the difference now and if that's not the case it's harder to see why you would pursue him over other options.

It's hard to say. Gyökeres has had a bit of adaptation, he's had a few struggles in an overall underwhelming attack, he's had an injury and a brief recovery. The signs aren't great but it remains too early to make a decisive judgement, especially if you bracket the signing in terms of value for money.

when I see the list of players with the least space, it's not about respect, it's a lack of respect by the defense. get tight and you don't have the technical ability to punish them.

Meatwad he chooses not create separation half the time. he runs directly into his marker, tussles with them, then loses possession or falls over. he's looking like lacazette with a worse touch
