Let's be real, it wasn't some pass that needed precise weight, direction or timing. Literally any ball in the direction of the 3 Arsenal players that makes it past the Newcastle defender is gonna work. Let's not let Gyokores off the hook by bringing up hypotheticals on whether other players would have made the pass. I'd expect anyone decent at passing a football to make that, nevermind someone who's made it to Premier league-level football. It was shite.

I cannot forgive Odegaard for that play there , its not like the space is tight or he doesnt see Gyokeres . I don't care if a player is out of form or whatever , he has to give him that pass .

Looks like Kai is injured so VG will likely play from the start on Wed. We need him more than ever.

He’s still our top goalscorer and has scored crucial goals. We can discuss in the summer whether he is worth pursuing but for now let’s back him till the end of the season 💪 Don’t forget he scored crucial goals for Sweden, he can do it for us in the remaining games as well.

Despite some technical limitations, he’s a winner and knows what it’s like to win a league.

Genuinely - when? Gyokeres came on and we lost all ability to win long balls and stick the play in the final third. He was combative, hustled and worked hard but it didn’t really translate to any real opportunity

I'd say he's had one 'moment' against Spurs (A). Beyond that's, there's little evidence he's able to have 'moments' at the top level.

That was true before the season too but hasn't meant anything to date. I think it's clear by this point that what he's done for Sweden and his previous clubs is irrelevant when it comes to the level we're competing at.

He ran and won the ball a few times. Fair.
It felt like he lost 90% of the long ball launched at him though. All hustle and bustle is cool but hold up the ball consistently at least twice in a row my guy

Scoff at the league all you like, but the pressure on Arteta (and his manager at the time McLeish) to win the league would have been magnitudes beyond that of which he is under today. By the same token, his experience of pressure then seems to have had limited impact for us.

One thing you don’t take into account is that he has zero Arsenal baggage unlike Kai, Mart, Ode and Saka. That is priceless especially at this time of the season!

Him, Eze and Hincapie will be huge for the run in.

You mean the tap-in off a loose ball? Good positioning but do you think we should expect more than that from our first choice? There are plenty of players in this league that score that goal, hardly an elite 'moment'.

I haven't said anything about Jesus, why are you bringing him up? My point is that Gyokeres is not good enough to be our first choice.

I haven't moved any goalposts and I never said he needs to score goals from 25 yards. As per my post in the Havertz thread, he's no more capable of scoring crucial goals than Kai is.

They're your own goalposts.

Let’s not get into how many sitters Kai has missed for us, we would be here all day.

End of the day, VG is a better finisher than Kai. It’s that simple.

Sicario2 I don't think Kai is markedly different post-injury, other than his physical reliability.

Gyokeres is probably better at finishing but I don't think he's especially gifted in that department (at least not given the time and space afforded in the Premier league). You only have to look at his missed chances against Bournemouth the other week.

And as I said in the Havertz thread, for a guy who is meant to be a goalscorer (who doesn't score that many goals), his lack of other abilities is a major drawback vs what Kai offers.

For me, the bottom line is that our attack looks better when he's in it and it looks worse when Gyokeres is in it.

The real bottom line is that we have a flawed attack regardless of whether it’s Gyokeres leading the line or Havertz. Sure for the next 5 games play whoever looks fit or in form but we simply must turn to the market again this summer

Coombs in 23/24 where Havertz was our primary CF, we scored our highest ever goals tally in the league. I'm not saying that's entirely down to him but he clearly played a part. Our attack looks considerably blunter this season.
