I will ignore the price we are paying. Well, until we end up missing out on a more important target because of the lack of funds.
If he comes as a £50 Mn squad player so be it, as long as we get others too. I don't mind us building an expensive squad, this is what we have faced for years since the arrival of Abramovich.
It just grates that we buy a £50 Mn squad player from a rival team that doesn't consider the player good enough for its squad. I know it's Chelsea and they have been a mess but surely their staff can't be so inept to let a player of high potential go.
They let go of both Salah and KDB around the same age that Madueke is now. They also won 2 titles in 3 years after letting them go and Madueke for all his physical/ athletic attributes doesn't look like he has their footballing ceiling.
We need strength on the bench though. We need to keep up the intensity of our play for 90 minutes across the season in multiple competitions. We struggle when we can't keep up physically, when we can't press, we know no other way to cause opposing teams trouble. Madueke might prove to be very useful. Could we have found a player with more footballing ability with similar stamina around the world who we could bring off the bench to keep the pressure on? If our scouts were any good, I am sure we could.
