This left wing stuff isn't news really, back when this squad and attacking approach was in its "norming" phase in 22–23 Martinelli gave an excellent interview about the cutback pass in our repertoire, and the automatism of our runs to different points on the edge of the square in response to a byline run by Gabi.
It was all starting to click pretty well back then, but that's also when teams started working double time in nearly every match to firstly neutralise Gabi and Saka, and secondly shut down all the spaces.
The main variable over these seasons has been the 9 and it's actually the 9 we've got to fix above all. I really like Havertz these days, but he's not a great answer to this problem, and nor obviously was Jesus.
You can sign Nico Williams all you like, but you'll still need beaucoup focus and threat from the centre to make any decent use of him, as well as to get better returns from Ødegaard etc.
I've landed on Gyökeres with Havertz as depth as the safest bet and the one we can take. I like this transfer because it would add sense to a riskier bid on a wide player.
