What we saw yesterday is not some one off either, we've played like that plenty under Arteta.. We struggled against Everton long time but got away with it right at the death. Far too often in the latter part of this season we've looked lackluster and these kind of results are in us when we have a big moment either in the league run or a cup and it's that which undermines belief. When everyone is on it we are a good unit but when we have an off day we can be totally outclassed but nearly any team.

invisibleman18 That's a bit extreme. Yesterday speaks to Arteta's conservatism/cowardice (depending on which side of the fence you are on; as an aside I feel increasingly splintered these days), but I don't think it should have much bearing on the league. I'm still comfortable we should see that out as long as we don't let it get into our head. From that perspective the international break is probably coming at a good time to allow us to regroup and get that out of our system without the emotion and pressure of going straight into another game.

Where it does really concern me is our ability to pull through in big games against big teams for the rest of the season. Arteta's approach concerned me. His inability to adjust positively to clear issues concerned me. I still think we look lacking technically compared to the big team, and might struggle in the latter stages of the Champions League if we get there with that aspect.

I'd struggle to understand any Arsenal fan who gave an absolutely unqualified and full-throated endorsement to Arteta if we don't win a major trophy from here this season.

Except of course as a bit of chest-beating theatre, because that's a commonplace ... but surely even then you'd have to be feeling a few serious doubts in private about him getting us over the line.

Saka plays a full 90 despite being our only elite attacker

Back to yesterday - Not only Kepa but watching on when city were camped in our half for 20 minutes till they scored and even then continued to dither till they got the 2nd

Gunner89 Seriously, if we removed our players who help keep possession against Leverkusen, and then lost shape and conceded to go 2-1 to end with another nervy finish, you'd probably be here complaining that Arteta screwed us. Fans have been complaining that Eze is underused. He plays. Gets injured. Shit happens.

I had pretty much on the Leverkusen match thread said the same that he should be subbing before the injury after rice scored

Eze was under-used but then it's classic teta to bring in a player then use him like crazy and then get injured

look at ben white, he came back in the winter played 4-5 games in 12-13 days same shit happened

Why does odegaard keep getting injured now? Saka had layoffs 3 seasons running...now he's lost a yard

It's a recurring pattern that doesn't change, earlier one could say we lacked depth but now he has a squad which he fails to use

I saw some stats on this the other day, think I may have posted them somewhere. We have the most goal involvements from subs and the second most minutes played by subs. This implies that we generally make subs earlier than other teams.
It's remarkable how much of what Arteta gets blamed for is simply not factual.

Please go compare our injury data with other big teams with heavy schedules like City, Liverpool, Chelsea, etc. You're just grabbing anecdotes and making it seem like Arteta is consistently pushing players into the ground. You don't mention anything around where he has proactively sat players this season. Odegaard, Havertz, Madueke, etc., had very slow returns. Guys like White and Calafiori used sparingly. Arteta publicly stated that he was managing Eze's fitness.

RowJimmy I think it's more on moments where the game plan has failed or clearly swung against us he does take a while to react this isn't the first match where the we could see plan a was not going to work so we should be proactive and change it early.

Gunner89 I recently saw the same data that @RowJimmy refers to. We do have the most goal involvements (goals and assists) from subs, and second most minutes and if i recall correctly were top 3 in time of first sub. Again, there are lot of made up narratives around how Arteta manages games and uses subs. Data often helps dispel misconceptions

Until last season, Arteta it seemed was struggling with knockout football, domestically and in Europe. Granted we didn't get favorable draws but a lot our matches had periods like yesterday where we simply went into a shell and became too conservative. 24/25 was the first time we started playing with some verve in Cup games. We carried that through this season but the players and manager froze in what was the first final for this group. City played like a club which was used to being on the big stage. Arteta has consistently been managing well in the league where you repeat what you set out to do week in week out. We will play our next final very differently if we win a big trophy this season.

Found up to date sub data for @Gunner89. go to Min/Sub. We have 23 minutes per sub, only behind the Chelsea Moneylaundering project at 24 minutes per sub.
Hard to get a long list of player minutes, but at least in premier league when we look at top 10 minutes for each of defenders, midfielders, and attackers. We don't appear in top 10 for defenders and attackers - which includes Virjil and Haaland. And amgonst midfielders, we and Pool each have 2 players, in order Szobo, Zubi, Rice, Gravenberch

We wouldn't appear in top 10 for defenders as both gabriel and saliba had a spell where they missed some games, heck even if they did appear it would be fine, as long as GK's and CB's are fit you play them all day in at least the PL and CL, you won't see me complaining if they aren't substituted unless they're just back from injury and need to be eased in

Pretty sure the table there has both rice and zubi in top 10 for midfielders so that's false even if this source is to be believed so that's a factual lie
