Qwiss I don't think he's trying to play him as a false 9. Looks like he wants him to play pushed up but has made no allowance for the gap that leaves.
This is my read on the current situation too, which is why I think Eze will be great for us. Gotta have that outlet there. People who complain about him not putting in a defensive shift act like we weren't a goal down after nine minutes against City.
We started this season without a settled team, the star striker signing had no preseason and is only now starting to look match fit, and we've lined up with a completely different front 4 than last season. I think we've done okay under the circumstances, especially in the sense that we've got these new guys to produce, because things could have been quite nasty otherwise.
If we still look like this in november then Arteta needs to be asked some tough questions though. I have a lot of doubts about him as a manager but the situation at Arsenal isn't settled right now, and there's merit to doing whatever it takes to keeping the boat afloat. We'll see how he navigates in the end.
