Mirth I suppose it'll depend on how much he wants to move. Last chance to play for a big club, play in the CL, maybe win big trophies, etc If relations are good between the player and Brentford they might let him leave on a reasonable fee.

We really are so boring with the midfield. Odegaard/Nwaneri as the only creative attacking midfielders is just sad.

Well, if we are making this kind of bid for Norgaard, its a pretty big sign that Partey is gone and won't be re-signed. We needed a replacement for him if he was going to be leaving, and Norgaard certainly fits the bill.. He's a captain, an international, and a decent all around DM. 11m is hardly breaking the bank either (comparatively). Not sure Brentford want to sell him for that price, but if we really want to get him, we will (and it won't be for that much more than that, as he apparently wants to join). People here should be happy because it kinda signals the end of Partey, and lots want him gone (for obvious reasons).

I think this is the biggest issue in the team. We have a Liverpool/Klopp style midfield which is workmanlike with low creative ability but highly effective in pressing and defending, which is fine if you have a fast and fluid front line. We have a slow and pedestrian front line and a workhorse midfield. It's not optimal.

Norgaard is very good. Plays intelligently and will be another asset on set pieces!

USArsenal No one is happier than me that we will finally be rid of Partey. I also have nothing against Norgaard and I'm sure he will do his best whenever he plays for us and he will have my full support.

However, I had hoped we'd use Partey leaving as an opportunity to re-balance the midfield and add a more attacking creative midfielder to our 3 functional 1s considering our struggles scoring last season and to make Odegaard's life a little easier.

We now have 4 functional midfielders and when Odegaard is out will be inflicted with a midfield such as Zubi-Rice-Merino and then we will all be wondering why the struggle to score is real again.

Happy with this. Good player, very solid and strong physically, always available which is massive. Prem experience can’t be underestimated either and he already lives in London and is pals with Raya - thumbs up from me 👍 #sensiblesigning

It's not so much who's replacing who, or the merits or Norgaard himself. It's the balance across midfield.

A midfield grouping of Odegaard, Rice, Merino, Zubimendi/Partey, Jorginho/Norgaard is very light on creativity and flair towards the top end of the field. Odegaard yet again looks like a single point of failure in terms of creativity if he's not available. That's a general comment and I recognise the issues with form in 24/25.

On the fringes you arguably have Havertz and Nwaneri. I don't see a place for Havertz in midfield now, and his best attributes isn't creativity with ball at feet. Nwaneri I'm not even going to consider as a central midfield option just now; he seems to have issues getting minutes out wide, and if he's not trusted out there then there's not a chance Arteta is going to be use him centrally.

Norgaard seems like a good signing though. Replaces a good bit of experience in midfield and knows the league inside out. Even if the opening talks are a bit low, I can't see it going beyond a ridiculous price given the starting figures thrown around.

Tam fair call out. The best way to utilise this kind of midfield is to have explosive players in the front three that are unshackled by defensive responsibilities - something like Klopp's Liverpool with Salah, Firmino and Mane.

I think it's the Board/hierarchy unwilling to spend money on a needle mover attacker.

Norgaard is a 10-20m signing - obviously it's quicker and easier to complete. The attackers we need are more expensive, and I'm not seeing any real desire to pay.

Mirth When there's no pressure to win you can sell in everything as a work in progress. If the progress stops you reboot and sell it as new work in progress.

I don't think much of Nørgaard by the way - if we want a midfielder with that profile then surely his national teammate Hjulmand is the one we should be looking at.
