I'd much rather have Gyokeres for 60m than Watkins for 40m personally. I don't mind Watkins and think we should have signed him in January but I want to roll the dice on the prolific striker hitting his prime who hasn't gotten an opportunity to shine on the biggest stage. Watkins is a proven commodity but we'd be back in the market for a striker again in another 1-2 years given his age.

samthegooner It's all about next season for us. If we don't win the PL or CL next year, particularly with the World Cup next summer, I think the wheels start to fall off. Our key players will only have so many seasons playing at the physical intensity Arteta demands.

Klaus Interesting to see the comparison in Aerial% since that has been the hot criticism of Gyokeres online in the past few days. I think it's really tough to judge how a striker is in the air since it's usually so output dependent and you can always find a lowlight compilation on poor headers. For example, I consider Kai to be quite good in the air but he's had some absolutely horrendous attempts on goal from crosses. The main thing I love about Gyokeres is his hunger. He has that striker's personality where he looks like an apex predator whenever he is on the pitch and his sole focus is scoring goals and driving at the net. I think that mentality is something we have been missing for a while now and combined with his ball striking, could be exactly what we need. I understand people's criticisms of his competition level and his technical ability with a loose first touch at times but I have a hard time believing he is a worse player than someone like Chris Wood, who has scored 20 goals this year.

I have a mate who is a United fan and he said this is what really set Ronaldo apart for them. He refused to be left home even when they were playing a bunch of farmers in the early rounds of the league and FA cups. He'd be on the bench and Ferguson would throw him on with 20 minutes to go just so he could put two or three past some blokes who were working part-time as truck drivers. Had the time of his life doing it too, he thought it was an absolute riot.

Klaus It's my biggest concern with Sesko. He has all the talent in the world but he just does not seem to have that apex predator mentality. We already have one of those in Kai (whom I love) but we need a bagman who is going to do everything he can to score goals (and has the talent to do so in spades).

@Klaus The more clips of Victor G I watch the more he reminds me of a young Blackburn Alan Shearer. Not sure if that’s too much of an outlandish statement?

Sicario2 I have no memories of Shearer at Blackburn unfortunately but I remember him well from his Newcastle days. I think they're very similar in the way they shoot. Strong player types with a natural sense for where the net is that hit the ball early with a lot of force.

flobaba yeah I went to Villa Park to see Villa Fulham and though I would have liked him a couple of seasons back I wasn’t impressed by Ollie fucking Watkins.

He’s quite limited technically and he’s on the way down physically.

We need an elite attacking signing not only for better performance on the pitch but also to reenergise the club and its fanbase.

Gyokeres would score lorry loads for us

In a world with no strikers… a guy hits 44 Primera and champs league goals. He’s strong, is a great sprinter. Loves to shoot (4 shots per 90), and creates a lot of opportunities for others. And we aren’t interested?

Claudius went back to have a look at all the goals we've scored this season and paid attention to those our strikers and "strikers" were involved in. Havertz and Gabriel Jesus in particular. There were no goals in there that made me think, hmm, that's a goal Gyokeres likely won't score because xyz. The mask makes the runs and gets into positions instinctively as well or better than Havertz, his finishing generally authoritative, and he has a box presence and can get a quick shot off when needed. The more I look, the more I like about Gyokie.

all the strikers we're linked to are shoot-on-sight types. gyok, sesko, watkins etc. whoever we get, I want them to be given complete carte blanche to fucking leather it without hesitation whenever they're in the box. do not make these guys second-guess or change their games. I want the rest of the team to acclimatise to the fact that the 9 is now a selfish asshole, and play accordingly

Gazza M I don't think you have that problem with that guy (😷). No more shillyshallying. Point and kill, is the term we use in Nigeria when picking out live catfish at the beer house for a quick peppersoup lunch/dinner. That's my Gyokie.
