MistaT Yeah a few of us want a creative attacking 8 in addition to the LW, CF. We also have Merino for the left 8. If we don't sign 1 I have a feeling we could see a Zubi, Merino, Rice midfield a few times next season because you know Arteta will play Merino as an 8 before he plays Nwaneri there 🙁

Romano saying we going for Sesko. Does feel like Sesko is more of an Arsenal signing than Gyokeres. I don't mind either but think Sesko is closer in style to Havertz which is probably why Arteta loves him.

But lawdy is the striker market fucked. That we will pay so much for a relatively unproven talent is evidently bonkers.

there's alot riding on this. we seem to be fixated on sesko for the last 2 years, so we've clearly done a heap of due diligence. his physicality is a clear selling point, as well as his powerful shooting. I think his numbers suggest he is more of a press monster than gyokeres as well, coming through the Leipzig system. we can also deploy effective haram ball with him given he's 6'4. a fast giroud. a rapid lamp post, basically.

all of the above are reasons I can see tet loving him. not a whole lot there that I'm personally excited by, but I can see him being an effective tool for us if all things go well.

I'd be a bit disappointed by Šeško instead of Gyökeres by now—could be Klaus's influence or it could just be that I really want a major trophy and Šeško is a 21 year old who looks like a potential terrible misfire.

If he's our top target, then we must be betting big on an analysis of Šeško's traits that isn't so visible in his numbers—barring of course his age. 13 goals in 33 Bundesliga appearances for 7th-placed Leipzig isn't setting the world on fire, and similar numbers in England aren't winning us the league.

Set those numbers against a high reported fee (even if it's £80m not £90m) and I'm not convinced we end up reaping a benefit from Šeško being a half-decade younger than Gyökeres.

Perhaps also Arteta thinks we can play Šeško and Havertz in the same line-up with the Slovenian coming off the left. This wouldn't surprise me as I sense Tet wants Havertz in the plan.

I was expecting a Sesko bomba. Leipzig had a preseason (postseason?) game against Santos in Sao Paulo yesterday and Sesko wasn't even there, I think. Even Xavi Simons who is expected to leave this summer was there. This seemed underreported. I reckon this might be somewhat imminent.

Gazza M what’s to like is his potential to be an all timer. He has the highest ceiling out of the players linked with us. Pace, power, skill, immense leap, bullet shot with both feet. But there are no guarantees of course. Gyokeres would guarantee us 20+ league goals, though he doesn’t have the same upside. Either one is fine for me. Both is even better.

For what it's worth, James mentioned on Arsecast the other day that he'd spoken to someone involved in recruitment at a PL club and they had said that they believed Sesko would become the best striker in world football. Absolutely no guarantee, particularly given the development still required but does suggest there is likely a lot of data and intelligence informing our pursuit of him.

Don Pacifico I can see the potential for sure. visions of the him being the new Werner have spooked me out of really being all in on him, but I will remain optimistic until proven otherwise

Don Pacifico Sesko has great qualities. I would welcome him with open arms. Either one of these guys would be great, and for me are both ahead of Ekitike in terms of our playing style/needs. Btw, credit to Sesko for spending another year in Germany instead of risking rotting on a bench - although we could've used him post January.

I can live with Sesko, he isn’t the finished article by a long shot but you can see there is something there. Think he’ll really explode soon and under Arteta and better players around him.

Yeah if you built a forward in a lab, I'm sure it's going to look like Sesko. It's just a big question of whether he's going to live up to his potential or not.

I saw news that RBL wanted 93m pounds for him yesterday though. They can F off for that price. Why didn't he put in a concrete release clause when he renewed like Liam Delap?

Is this the same Fabrizio Romano who said that Gyokeres was basically a done deal and we were expected to put the formal bid in?

I dont trust any of this until we announce someone. I am seeing it being 'almost confirmed' for both players. And we aint getting both players.

USArsenal hmm don't remember him saying that. he quoted the price and said he was definitely leaving this window, and that he was on our shortlist. don't recall anything about talks or bids being mentioned

Gurgen yeah, Sesko upside comes with risk. Arteta could buy him and not have quite enough in next year's semi final against Bayern Munich. But he possibly becomes one of the 3 best strikers in league for a long time. What is interesting is it is Arteta who likes Sesko and Berta who likes Gyok. You'd expect the other way round given individual incentives/risks

Claudius I don't think Arteta has any lack of job security despite what folks might think here or in the media. I think he is quite safe in his role even if he were to have another year without a trophy so he's going to go for a signing that fits his project and that's Sesko.

Claudius I think Sesko is very able when it comes to hurting bigger better teams. We haven’t had the type of manny man power he’d bring in yonks

Don Pacifico would feel bad for Gyokeres if that happened. Aren't United looking at Cunha?

Claudius will be interesting to see what happens. Doesn't appear to be first choice for any of the top sides; can't help but think the ridiculous price tag Lisbon put on him last summer really turned off a lot of potential buyers.

I'm fine with Sesko. I started getting a little more turned towards Gyokeres recently until I watched a video on hold up play comparing the two and Sesko on the ball was very impressive. Honestly, either works for me. It's going to be an improvement on us starting Merino up top and I think that Havertz will start up top for a while until they are up to speed anyways. If Arteta wants Sesko, I trust him. I also like the idea of going for the higher ceiling even if I think that Gyokeres has that striker mentality that few in the world possess where their sole purpose in life is scoring goals. It wouldn't surprise me if we are still putting in the work on both targets and will decide who to pull the trigger on once negotiations have commenced and the full details of each deal are revealed. I don't give any credibility to that Telegraph report that stated Sesko would be 90m+ pounds - there's no way he and his representatives would have extended last summer without a promise internally that he would be allowed to leave for a reasonable fee. My guess is both will cost around 60-70m euros plus their wages.
